Jack Slover Obituary
Age 92, of Cumming, GA passed away October 12, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife: the former Rebecca (Becky) Tolbert of Jefferson, GA; parents: Mary G. and John F. Slover, Sr.; brother: John F. Slover, Jr. and sister-in-law: Dot Slover of Macon, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Curtis and Nell Segars of Gainesville, GA; Tabo and Nora Tolbert of Jefferson, GA; and sister-in-law: Glenda Tolbert of Pendergrass, GA.
Jack is survived by his son: Jack G. Slover, Jr. and his wife Jade Slover of Atlanta; daughter: Ginger S. Riggs and her husband Wade Riggs of Gadsden, TN; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Melvin (Monk) Tolbert of Pendergrass, GA; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jack was of the "Old Atlanta Group" attending Sylvan Hill Elementary, Joe Brown Junior High, Tech High and Georgia Tech. He served in the US Naval Reserve. He retired from Southern Engineering Company as the Executive Vice President after 41 years of service. He enjoyed all sports. While at Tech High School he was the1947 GIAA 100 yard and 220 yard dash State Track Champion and was a 1947 All City and All Region Half Back for Brown High, where he graduated in January of 1948.
Jack was a forever Methodist joining the "Log Cabin Methodist Church" on Deckner Ave. in Sylvan Hills in the early 1930's and was at present a member of the Cumming First United Methodist Church and the Sorta Fifty's Sunday School class. He was a member of the Tech High School 4th Quarter Club and a member of the Tech High School Board of Directors, along with being a former member of the Sawnee EMC Consumer Advisory Task Force, a former member of the Jefferson, GA Lions Club and the East Point-Cascade Elks Club.
Visitation will be October 20, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and the funeral service will be October 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM at McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2:00 PM on October 21, 2021 at Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson, GA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Cumming First United Methodist Church's Sorta Fifties Class.

Jack,
So sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Your dad like mine were children of the depression who grew up to live the American dream. They started out with the love of their family and not much else because nobody had anything back then. Your father like mine excelled in athletics and took that competive drive along with ambition
and turned themselves into self-made millionaires. A far cry from the kids who grew up next door to each. I can't tell you how many times through the years that I heard my dad and my uncle Gene tell stories about growing up next door to the Slovers. Some of my favorite memories with my dad, my granddad, and my uncle Gene were on fishing trips talking about the good old days living next to your grandparents and dad. They don't make 'em like your dad and mine much anymore so losing them hits home a little harder. Remember the good times and the things about them that made you laugh it will always put a smile on your face.
