Family-Placed Death Notice

James Louis Dorough, Sr., age 81 of Moultrie, Ga., passed May 6, 2003. Born February 6, 1922 to James Wellington Dorough and Bertha Beatrice Jones Dorough in Atlanta, Georgia. Married Ruth Roland McGaw, daughter of Will F. and Allie V. McGaw of Union City, Tennesse in 1943. Moved to Moultrie, GA in 1965. Following the untimely death of wife Ruth in 1965, married Olis Elaine Vickers Summerour. Flew the B-25J Mitchell bomber in WWII South Pacific threatre as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corp, 7th Air Force, 41st Bomb Group, 48th Bomb Squardron. Witnessed atomic blast at Nagasaki, Japan from a distance of 100 miles while on a bombing mission. Career commercial pilot for Riddle Airlines and corporate pilot for Riverdale Mfg. Co. in Moultrie, GA., accumulating over 19,000 hours of flight time. Member, Deacon and Sundday School teach at First Baptist Church, Moultrie. Skilled wood-worker since childhood; crafted and refinished fine articles for Sid's Antiques in Moultrie throughout retirement years. Survived by wife, Elaine; 3 sons, James Michael Dorough of McDonough, GA, Robert Drew Dorough of Jacksonville. FL, Maj. James Louis Dorough, Jr. USAF of Abiliene, TX; 2 daughters, Vickie Elaine Maule of Moultrie, GA and Amelia Ann Parker of Russellville, AL; brother Allen Dorough of Atlanta, GA and sister, Jeanette Hunt of Atlanta, GA; 8 grandchildren Jacqueline Michelle Dorough Soper; Lauren Amelia Parker and Leah Beth Parker James Riley Dorough and Sarah Nichole Dorough, Robert Drew Dorough Jr., William Reid Dorough and James Cole Dorough; 1 great-granddaughter, Gabriella Marie Soper. Memorial services Thursday 11 a.m. at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home. Rev. J.E. Moak officiating assisted by Rev. Terry Webb. Interment, Pinecrest. Visitation immediately following service. Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
