She was the sweetest, most vibrant, most beautiful spirit that I know. She was a light in my life, my mothers, and in so many others. She will be missed from her church family and from all her earthly family. She always has been an angel so now she is in heaven. I will always love and think of her for as long as I live. I hope that her beloved family is comforted by the extraordinary life she lived and their memories of her.

June 17, 2011

To our Extended Family,

We all loved her but God loved her more, and she loved the LORD. We will cherish many fond memories and good times with her at Bethel and on trips to various places. She always had a kind word and a kind heart with biblical words of wisdom for all occasions. She guided my family through tough times and would always say let go and let GOD. I will definitely miss the cards of encouragement that she would send to us on any given day. Yes, there is a void in our lives, but we know they is an angel in our heart taking care of things in Heaven until we can be united with her again. GOD bless the family and give us all strength to make it through. We know HE will.

Love,

To the family of Mrs. Jessie Louise Ketchen,

In a moment like this, one realizes that it's very hard to express the deepest feelings that can possibly be felt. I don't know the words to make the sadness go away, but I do have faith with all my heart that comfort will surely come. And I don't know the words to adequately celebrate a life that was so richly lived and that touched so many other lives. But maybe that sweet responsibility doesn't need an abundance of words. It will be lovingly taken care of by holding on to every blessing that was given, by being as strong as Mrs. Ketchen would want you to be, and by the warmth of so many precious memories.

There's no way to fully understand the pain you're going through or how deeply you hurt right now. But there's one certain thing in all this, one thing more powerful than the sadness you feel... God's love is here to surround you, to strengthen you, to carry you. His love will pierce the darkest hour you walk through to bring hope, comfort, and rest to your soul. Praying for you as your heart heals. May he give you strength to face each day and wisdom for all the decisions you will face. May you be surrounded with carrying friends and family to support you during this difficult time.

Her Spirit is very much alive. I can feel it every time I go near my driveway. She was a very special next door neighbor. In quiet moments you will sense her love for you very near. Mrs. Jessie Louise Ketchen had an impact on many lives. Her memory will live through the lives of all that have come to know her. Although you will miss her and mourn that she's gone, may this thought bring you peace--- that in you.... Mrs. Jessie Louise Ketchen LIVES on......

Mrs. Ketchen your footprints will always live. We love you, but God wanted a beautiful rose in heaven with Him, so He came and picked you.

Prayerfully In Christ & In Love,
Your Next Door Neighbors

When I started attending Big Bethel A.M.E. Church, I WONDERED WHY everyone called Mrs. Ketchen, "Mother Ketchen". I noticed there were some key friends of mine who adored her and she shared of how she loved them! I WONDERED WHY.

Since I have no family here, I WONDERED HOW did they get this bond when they had their own families here. Well, I stayed around Big Bethel and low and behold! She came to me... and expressed her love for me!

I no longer wonder..... I KNOW.

I love you, Mother Ketchen and shall always remember your stewardship and love and devotion to God.

- She never was too busy or forgot to hug me!
- She thought about me.
- Prayed for me.
- Always wanted what was best for me.
-Invited me into her home and supped with me.
- Shared privately and personable with me.
- Knew when I was hurting and rocked with me.
- She cared about me. Her sincerity showed!

Although she said she loved to watch me serve the church, Mother Ketchen showed ME how to serve the church.

Sis Ketchen was an example of what a Christian should be. It seems like only a few months ago that she was honored as one of our Living Legacy Members. To have known her is a blessing for me. Keep her spirit alive in you heart as I will in mine.

To the Precious Family of Mother Ketchen -- Big Bethel AME's Noon Bible Study is so blessed to have shared studies with this true Bible Scholar. She touched so many lives and so willingly shared her Love for Jesus with us all. I shall long remember my "Bible Study Buddy" for saying "Baby, God's time is not our time..." Mother Kethen has her reward and we should all be so blessed as to rest in the Arms of Our Lord and Savior. Live, love, laugh and have peace in your heart -- in her memory.
