Family-Placed Death Notice

THOMPSON, Jim Jim Thompson, 78, passed April 30, 2013. Born in Atlanta, he lived in Smyrna for the past 32 years. After proudly serving in the U.S. Navy as a gunnersmate on the U.S.S. Isherwood, he returned to Atlanta and worked for National Distributing Co. He made a lasting mark in the wine business, retiring in 1994. He was a very straight forward, honest, hardworking man with a sense of wit and a love of the outdoors and John Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Mariah, and their dog, Rosie. In addition, his chosen sons, John Ramsaur and David Jones. Jim and Mariah sincerely thank all who have helped and the attention shown by so many in his last days. Jim was cremated and his ashes placed in the Georgia National Veterans Cemetery, Canton, Ga. Per his request, no flowers. Memorials in Jim's memory, can be made to Alaska Raptor Center, 1000 Raptor Way, Sitka, AK. 99835, The Humane Society of Cobb County, 148 Fairground Street, Marietta, Ga. 30060 or to your favorite charity.

Ms Thompson, I am so glad that I got a chance to meet the "Big Guy" and I'll always remember the bear hugs he gave me, as well as the spicy peppers we shared.
