Family-Placed Death Notice

BUSSEY, John JOHN ROBERT BUSSEY Dr. John Robert Bussey died June 19th in a tragic car accident in Thomson, Georgia. Born in Austell, Georgia in 1950, he was a 1967 graduate of The Westminster Schools in Atlanta. He attended the University of Georgia and, at the end of his junior year, gained early admittance to Emory Medical School. After graduating from Emory, he completed a fellowship in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Bussey then joined the Emergency Room Staff at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta where he practiced for 14 years. Thereafter, he assisted in establishing Piedmont Minor Emergency Clinics. John next joined his brother, Dr. Joseph Bussey, in practice at their father's former hospital, The Bussey Clinic, in Austell. Before retiring his career, Dr Bussey practiced medicine at the Georgia Tech Student Health Center. Dr. Bussey inherited his parents love for travel and had seen most of the world. He enjoyed a full life of extravagant adventures and extensive travel on freighters, planes, and trains. Dr. Bussey is survived by his son, Joseph Augustus "Gus" Bussey; his mother, Frances Sewell Bussey; nieces, Jennifer Bussey Sandberg and Celeste Nicole Bussey; and nephews Dr. Joseph Gibson Bussey III and Jason Glenn Bussey. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Joseph Gibson Bussey Sr. and his brother, Dr. Joseph Gibson Bussey Jr. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 1 at 3:00 pm at Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta. Aug. 30, 2010
To the family, and to all who loved Dr. Bussey,
I recently heard about the death of Dr. John Bussey for whom I had great admiration, respect, and trust as a physician and friend. Heaven has welcomed him with his interests, caring, gifts, intelligence, and love. My heart reaches out to all who miss him on this earthly journey. May God sustain you with His everlasting arms of love, peace, understanding, and care for He cares for each of you. (I could not locate addresses, so please accept this with ny sympathy.) Dr. Bussey cared about his patients and had a wide range of knowledge of medicine and many other subjects. I enjoyed exchanging converstation, discussion of medicine and the care of patients, and exchanging humor, and when it was not busy, hearing him discuss travel, history, and the wide range of subjects of which he had knowledge and interest. What a brilliant man and a caring family he had. His devotion and love of medicine and care for his patients was exemplary. God be with you all. Im God's love, Eleanor Sanders Dixon

My sincere sympathy to the family. I had the chance to meet Dr Bussey, Cyndae and Gus and be share some special family moments together. I last saw John few years back on a trip he did with some georgia Tech students in Oxford, UK. He was always up for a bit of adventure around the world when ever he had the chance....

Dr. Bussey was a great physician at Georgia Tech. He was very friendly and helpful and I loved his country doctor remedies. I was sad when I saw his picture in Sunday's paper. May God be with you during this time and know that Dr. Bussey touched many lives.

My sympathies are extended to the family of Dr. Bussey. Dr. Bussey took care of me during an illness while I was attending Georgia Tech over 10 yrs ago. He was a great doctor, and Georgia Tech was fortunate to have had him on staff in the Student Health Center.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Bussey family at this difficult time. May the words of Isaiah 25;8 be of encouragement and comfort to the family.
