John McGINN Obituary

McGINN, John Charlton John Charlton McGinn, 73, of Peachtree City, GA was called home to be with his Savior on Saturday night, September 3, 2016. He unexpectedly suffered a heart attack after surviving a major motorcycle accident six weeks prior. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville, GA, with John Barrow of A Better Way Ministries officiating. A post-memorial reception will immediately follow. Born in Rock Hill, SC on February 19, 1943, John "Johnny" McGinn was one of three children born to parents John and Ruth (Choate) McGinn. He played soccer, football, baseball, and basketball at Indian Land High School, where he graduated in 1961. He went on to play soccer at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina, where he graduated in 1966. After college, John moved to Atlanta with $100 in his pocket, where he put himself through law school at the Woodrow Wilson College of Law by working during the day and attending classes at night. He began his law career in Atlanta at Johnston and McCarter law firm before moving to Peachtree City in 1979 to start his own law practice. He married Cheryl Vale Ford on October 22, 1977, and they had two children. All three were his pride and joy. John was an honorable businessman and a good and faithful servant of the Lord. He loved his family, friends, riding his Harley long distances, the Moo Cow Bikers, writing, and gospel music, which he is surely singing in Heaven right now. John was known for his many sayings, but his favorite was, "Be a blessing to someone today." Surviving are his wife, Cheryl V. McGinn of Peachtree City, GA; his son, Joshua McGinn (Danielle) of Woodstock, GA; his daughter Katie McGinn Odom (Chaz); two grandsons, Ethan McGinn and Drew McGinn, and one more soon-to-be grandson (Odom), due to arrive in November. John also leaves his sisters, Dell McGinn Orr (David Vandre) of Hendersonville, NC and Carol McGinn of Albuquerque, NM; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to A Better Way Ministries at http://www.abetterwayministries.com or to Christian Families Today at http://www.cftministry.org. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of one of his saints." - Psalm 116:15 Arrangements made under the direction of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, Peachtree City, GA.

Cheryl, I can barely express my sadness at John's passing. I know this is a great loss to you, Katie and Josh. And all who loved him. He was, as you know so well, a truly fine man. I remember John fondly from our first days in his hew law practice in the basement of the bank building. How he adored you and the children! It seems so long ago, but my memories of him are fresh and precious to me. May your memories comfort you and the children now, and always, Claudia (Lanell Hoyer) Kennedy

Dear Cheryl and Family, I am so sorry to have learned of John's passing. I know this is a difficult time for all of you but I also know that the Lord has each one of you etched in the palm of His Hand and will hold you in His Arms until all the sadness passes. I can share this with you because a year ago next next month I too lost the love of my life. Love to you.

Cheryl,
Kay and I enjoyed riding with John with the Moo Cow Bikers. He was a good friend and I have never known a better family man and a true Christian. The first year we rode to Daytona Beach I remember him worrying about Kay and I like we were his kids. He will be missed but what a reunion there will be one day in Heaven.

Cheryl,
I know John's early "graduation to glory" has been tough. I only knew John from the Moo Cow meetings and the few rides that I was able to be on. I was the "black sheep of the Moo Cow family" and John reached out to me and made me feel welcome, not just at my first meeting, but continually. I felt the love of the Father through John. I will miss him and his good Sunday morning messages. He has a way of bringing out some of the most profound thoughts. I look forward to seeing him again one day.
Our sovereign God chooses to bring some of his children home very slowly, and some he chooses to bring home quickly. I pray that the God of all comfort will bring you and your family peace, strength, and healing in the weeks and months ahead. I love you.

We were saddened when we heard the passing of the father-in-Law of our Area Supply Chain Manager (Charles Odom). We could not hold it but had to agree with him to come home to be part of the memorable and sorrowful moment.
A good man, we know will forever be remembered. Mr. John was closed to the family and we could imagine the trauma the individuals within the family are going through.
Halliburton Supply Chain Management Team in Ghana and Africa Other wish to send their love and Sympathy to the Family and Friends during this sorrowful moment.
May God Bless and Keep all together!

What a wonderful man, I shall never forget his kindness when I was widowed and just started riding motorcycles. Always a kind word for everyone - our world is a much sadder place with his passing. But we know with glad, glad hearts, he's sitting at the feet of Jesus (probably teaching Him the words to a George Jones song). We are much better souls for having ridden our Harleys along side John McGinn.

Ride safe John, you will always be a blessing to us.

My condolences to the family John was my Friend To The End something we always told each other from Indian Land school and the end isn't here yet because I'll see him again in Heaven, see you again one fine day.

Cheryl, Theresa and I love you and John and will never forget the kindnesses that all the Moo Cow family showed to us in our time of need. So in your time of need, we pray that God may console all of the family members and friends of John with the power of His Spirit and Love. Let Him speak Peace to your soul. Blessings on you and we will never forget John.

Dear Cheryl, Josh and Katie,
John was the nicest most honorable man I think I have ever met. He offered me a job and I was able to work with both he and you, Cheryl, where I got to know you both. I got to see the kids grow up and loved to talk to John about them, he lit up every time we did. I also liked to hear his stories about his Harley trips and rides. If he hadn't offered me a job I would not have had the opportunity to spend time with him or you, nor would I be a Realtor today. Both Sam and I would like you to know that all of you are in our thoughts and our prayers. God Bless you and keep you and may HE keep you in his arms and give you strength!

Josh and family,
Please accept my deepest condolences during this most difficult time. May God give you all the strength to press forward. I'm sure your Dad is up in heaven right now, riding his Harley around with my Dad on the back, somehow letting everyone know it's going to be ok. If you ever need anything, I'm just a quick message away.
Respectfully,
Jaime Ann (SB Insiders)

Cheryl,

We appreciated so much the help John gave in getting OM established here in Fayette County. Your friendship, hospitality and encouragement along the way blessed us and many others. Praying for you... In the pain of separation and the celebration of His life and journey Home.

Dear Cheryl and children: You probably already know that I have known John since he and I were 18 years old. We enjoyed each others company at Pfeiffer, law school, trips to Florida and of course when we were room mates. I watched him mature from a carefree college kid to a successful adult. Throughout our friendship he was a constant optimist with that great smile. His outlook on life was infectious. Please know that his greatest joy was you and the children. I, like many others, will miss him. May God bless and keep you and the children and help you find peace as John would wish. Helen and I will be thinking of you. Bruce D. Duncan

One of the best Christian men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was genuinely the definition of a Stand-Up Guy!
My heart breaks for his family.

Hi Cheryl, I'm Tom McBride. John, Roby, Bruce, Dunlap, David and I hung together while we were at Pfeiffer. We were all from similar backgrounds and we just connected. John was a good guy and a good man. The last time I saw him was at Bruce's wedding and we met you then. I'm sure you and the children will miss him. May God bless you all and keep you in His loving arms during this difficult time. Tom & Wanda McBride, Winston-Salem, NC.

So sorry to hear of John's unexpected passing. I know he has just passed from this life to his eternal home. What a true man of God he was and was the hands and feet of Jesus in everyday life. As a Realtor, I worked with him on closings for many years. He was always kind, caring, patient, and helpful in all circumstances! What a great loss for us here, but a great addition to Heaven! Much love to the family!

John was a good man and a good friend. I will miss his dry humor and that big mustached smile! I will see him again one day but I am going to miss him till then. Cheryl, we love you and are here whenever you need us. Josh and Katie, your dad made me a better man.
