Kevin Swindall Obituary

SWINDALL, Kevin Nathan

Kevin Nathan Swindall was born in Gadsden, AL, on October 17, 1956, the son of Nathan Edward Swindall and June Parker Swindall. Kevin grew up with his mother in Eau Gallie, FL, and loved life on the Space Coast. A natural salesman, he started selling seeds at age eight, and by high school had three newspaper routes. His passion as a young man was tennis, which he played daily with the Eau Gallie High School team or with friends. In 1975, at the University of Georgia, he met the love of his life, Marilyn Cushing. They married in 1978, and for 25 years worked together in the retail furniture business he started, Atlanta Furniture. They loved merchandising, creating advertising, getting to know customers and the people in the furniture industry. Four children were born, and Kevin cherished each one. In 1991, Kevin gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. He and his family became active members of Church of the Apostles. He closed his stores on Sunday, and God blessed him with more sales. In 1997, Kevin was shot in an armed robbery at his store. Through this life-changing experience, he drew closer to the Lord, who gave him new purpose and the ability to forgive his attackers. Soon after, he and Marilyn began 27 years of teaching elementary Sunday School. From 2002-2020 he joined David Smith and Andy Hobbs in a weekly ministry to the prisoners at Phillips State Prison. In 2003, Kevin moved into full-time sales, primarily in the automotive industry. Over 14 years he crafted a following of devoted customers at Sandy Springs Ford, Hennessy Ford, and finally at Akins Ford in Winder, GA, from which he retired on January 31, 2025. He and Marilyn moved to Ormond Beach, Florida on April 1, one month before the cancer diagnosis. He passed away at home on May 26, 2025. Kevin was created to love well, and lived a life of passion, devotion, faithfulness and generosity that was evident in everything he did. He was his children's greatest role model and they carry with them the gift of knowing how deeply their father loved them. Kevin is survived by Marilyn, his beloved wife of 46 years; children, Laura Elaine Shy (Zach), Amanda Claire Akin (Jeremy), Abigail Ann Swindall and William Tucker Swindall; grandchildren, Zain Barlow Shy, Kaia June Shy, and Arlo Xavier Shy; his brothers, David Edward Swindall and Philip Lee Swindall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Memorial service is at 11:00 AM on June 19, 2025 at Church of the Apostles, 3585 Northside Pkwy NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to contribute in his name to his favorite charity, Samaritan's Purse.

I want to wish the family my sincere condolences- I met Kevin and Marilyn Swindle on a plane headed for Spain. My father, Dwain Cagle, did the same sort of business (furniture store in ATL), and somehow, a group of sales people went on a tour of Spain. I was under the age of 10, my sister Ann, who's older, must've been around 13 yrs. old. Ann and myself immediately took to Kevin and Marilyn, I think we hung around them more than our parents. I have only fond memories, and have held onto exactly what Maya Angelou is famously quoted, "They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel." I will NEVER FORGET the way I felt hanging around with these two beautiful souls, in a country where a little girls hamburger with ketchup only became a piece of ham with ketchup. I know Kevin's In GloryLand, in Eternal Peace. Xoxo

Thinking of you as we celebrate Kevin´s beautiful life. Sending love, thoughts and prayers to Marilyn and his loving family. I shared with Kevin the last time we talked (just before he passed) that I was so glad he loved our Lord, because I would see him again.

It is an honor and a blessing to have known and served with my dear brother Kevin over the last 10 years. His gentle, yet steadfast spirit, bore witness to his faith and trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
