MOORE, L. McHoyt REV. L. McHOYT MOORE Rev. L. McHoyt Moore, age 77, of Buford, GA passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents; Loyce and Alma Ethridge Moore. He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Mrs. Becky Moore, Buford, GA daughter and son-in-law: Sonya and Leonard Cutter, St. Augustine, FL; son and daughter-in-law: Grant M. and Joanie Moore, Dahlonega, GA; grandson: Chad and Jody Pass, Buford, GA; step grandchildren: Matthew and Maura Cutter, St. Augustine, FL, Mark and Christine Cutter, St. Augustine, FL; great grandchildren: Ruthie and Bailey Pass, Buford, GA; step great grandchildren: Oliva and Hannah Cutter, St. Augustine, FL; sister and brother-in-law: Jannean and Edwin Jones, Buford, GA; brothers-in-law: Robert E. and Gloria Gray, Vero Beach, FL, Ralph and Shirley Grey, Rome, PA; sister-in-law: Margaret and Rodney Pitcher of PA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rev. Moore was born August 2, 1930 in Gwinnett County, GA. He was a 1948 graduate of Buford High School and he attended art school at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force having served in the Korean Conflict. Rev. Moore was in the ministry for 54 years having pastored the following six churches: Friendship Baptist Church in Buford, GA; Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, GA; Harmony Baptist Church in Buford, GA; Riverside Baptist Church in Buford, GA; Rock Branch Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, GA; and Old Suwanee Baptist Church in Buford, GA for the past 41 years. He was the founder of Old Suwanee Christian School in Buford, GA 24 years ago. Since his retirement, Preacher Moore has spent many happy hours painting in his art studio. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Suwanee Baptist Church with Dr. Don Richards and Pastor Tim Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens, Buford, GA. All ministers and missionaries are requested to serve as honorary escort. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Old Suwanee Christian School, 4118 Old Suwanee Road, N.E., Buford, GA 30518 in memory of Rev. Dear Becky, Grant, Sonya,
My heart was saddened by the passing of McHoyt. Prayers and thoughts are with you as you continue your journey to heaven without him.
My fondest memories of the years I attended Old Suwanee Church was the revivals and how you could feel the Holy Spirit and conviction with souls being saved. Becky, I can remember one time during a morning service that the Holy Spirit was moving so strong, it started raining and people had to run outside to let up their car windows. Of course, that hindered the service. God used me to teach a Sunday School Class that Dickie Parker was in. The Lord called him home not too long after that.
Harvey and I were married by McHoyt on December 18, 1965. I can remember daddy telling him, he was no "indian giver". This made McHoyt laugh.
Becky, you and your family have always had a special place in our hearts and our memories. God has used you and McHoyt to touch and transform many lives.
We will always love you and remember you in our prayers.
Grant and Sonya, hold on to the precious memories you have of your Dad and serve the Lord as he did.

Our hearts have been saddened with the graduation of Preacher Moore. We appreciated his Godly wisdom. Our favorite quote of his - "Even if you have to live in a tent and drink creekwater, give your children a Christian education!" With the Lord's help, we'll accept that challenge with our 4 children. My deepest sympathy for you all during this trying time. I know that Preacher Moore meant a lot to a lot of people and I am no different. His character helped to mold me in ways that I cannot begin to describe on paper--he was one of the most astutue men I've encountered in my life. His life has meant so much to me and my family and that makes it so much harder to hear of his passing. He's in a better place now, but know that he didn't leave here without a wake that will outlast him for a long time.

Ms. Becky, Sonya and Grant: when one just names the name of Preacher Moore many thoughts of holiness, godliness, humbleness and boldness in God's Word come to mind. I am eternally thankful and so humbled to have grown up under his preaching. I have never had the privilege of meeting Rev. Moore, except through the impact he made on his daughter, Sonya. I'm a pastor in St. Augustine at Sonya's church, and work alongside her each Sunday leading God's people in worship. As I see her love for God as it is expressed in both her voice and playing, I now know from whence it sprang.

We can't tell you how much we miss Preacher Moore! He has meant so much to us in our lives, as he has with so many! I'm so thankful to have had him as my pastor for so many years. His compasion and burden to reach lost souls for Christ was evident in everything he did. We are so grateful that he obeyed God's call to open a Christian school and were so blessed to have attended and graduated from that ministry. I was a lost teenager that went to a revival service one Monday night in August, 1969. I was there because the dad of the girl I was dating asked me to go. Didn’t want to, but I wanted to keep seeing this girl and felt I should do what he asked. The guest preacher that week at Bethabra Baptist Church was McHoyt Moore. The Holy Spirit of God slew me that night, convinced me of my sin, drew me by His grace and regenerated me by His spirit. More than 30 years ago I met Bro. Moore at a preachers meeting. As the years pasted he became a very good friend. Really more than a friend. He through the church supported me financially as a missionary, faithfully prayed for me and was a continual encouragement and blessing.

I want you to know that I have been praying for you all. Preacher Moore was very dear to my heart and I loved him so much. He was always there when I needed something and always knew when to tell me a joke to cheer me up. I will never forget how good he was to me. I met Pastor Moore in l979, when I joined First Commercial Bank in Buford, GA...........he was a bank customer and became a friend......he was always very courteous to me.

Over 30 years ago I entered the sanctuary of the Old Suwanee Baptist Church as a guest. I sat in the back of the church. It was the first time I had ever seen McHoyt. I do no remember exactly what he said. What I do remember is that as McHoyt spoke another voice began speaking to me. Isaiah calls it a voice behind you. To Elijah it was a still small voice. The voice was using the vocal chords of McHoyt to reveal to me my spiritual condition. "You need a Savior!” the voice gently spoke. "Christ died for you", it whispered. My heart melted that morning. I made a decision in the back of the church. I opened the door to my heart and Jesus walked in. God appeared to me that morning at Old Suwanee. He had wavy hair and dark glasses. His voice was the voice of McHoyt and by with that voice He changed my life.
God made our paths cross for a brief period of time. I will remember McHoyt with fondness and I praise God for His life and ministry.

Preacher Moore was a dear friend to my daddy and Jesse's daddy. My daddy cherished his friendship and talked alot about when I was a child how much Preacher Moore meant to him and his Christian Walk. Preacher Everett also, talked about Preacher Moore and the young years of his ministry preaching together in Churches and then working together in Macedonia Missions. Truly God Blessed Preacher Moore with compassion and love for souls. Preacher Moore baptized me more than 40 years ago. I will never forget this kind and loving pastor of years ago.
I always heroed He and Ms. Becky for the compassion they had for me as a child. When we would meet up
they were always so nice and friendly. WE know you will miss Preacher Moore, but this is not the end, Preacher Moore has just begun to live!!

We will greatly miss our Preacher Moore! I'm so thankful that I was able to grow up under his leadership and his teaching, and that my daughters were able to spend the first years of their lives around him. He loved kids and affected no-doubt thousands for Christ. We are in earnest prayer for Sis. Becky, Grant, and Sonya. We love you all.

Becky and Family , We are so sorry to hear of Hoyt's passing. We know that if there ever was a true man of GOD, he was. We became friends thru our mothers but connected as family thru our faith in god. Hoyt was such a good man and and a extremely humble man. He was always the same no matter how bad he felt or whatever the cituation was, he always had the word of God for all his fellow man. He has touched many, many lives thru his years as a minister, not only will he be missed by his immediate family but by his spiritual family also. We call it a privilage to have known such a fine person as Hoyt. He will truley be missed. If we can be of any help now or in the days to come, Call us..Love to you all...
