Lois Daughters Obituary

DAUGHTERS, Lois

Lois Daughters lived abundantly to 95.

Lois Marie Baldy Daughters of Atlanta, passed away in hospice January 15, 2025. Mrs. Daughters was 95 and remained a force of nature even as she transitioned to everlasting peace.

Born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, on October 11, 1929, young Lois spent part of her Depression-era childhood in Roswell, New Mexico, there learning to ride horses among cowboys and assorted roughnecks. Returning to rural South Georgia, the irrepressible teen spent weekends "cutting the rug" at Lake Beatrice, Ben Hill County's popular youth spot, where the Jitterbug was the rage.

Upon graduating Fitzgerald High School at the end of World War II, Miss Baldy entered Valdosta State Women's College. When her father, William, was stricken by tuberculosis, Lois took on full-time work to support the Baldy family, which also included her mother, Opal, and younger brother, Billy.

Employed as a civilian secretary at Moody Air Force Base, Miss Baldy met and married Capt. Wynne L. Daughters, an aviator from Dayton, Ohio, who would go on to graduate as an aerospace engineer from the Georgia Institute of Technology, likewise with Lois's steadfast support.

Highlighting Lois's verve, easy charm and charitable work, she was a finalist in the 1966 "Mrs. Atlanta" pageant, sponsored by the Atlanta Gas Light Company. Lois was nominated by the Northside Junior Women's Club, which also named her its 1965-1966 "Most Valuable Member." In 1967, NJWC honored Lois, Wynne and sons Gary and Scott as its "Family of the Year."

Her pioneering career in metro Atlanta real estate included receipt of the prestigious, lifetime Phoenix Award from the Atlanta Realtors Association. Representing Buckhead Brokers, where she mentored a generation of sales agents, Lois was never late for an appointment and was famously cordial among colleagues and during negotiations.

In retirement, Lois doted upon her beloved granddaughter, Ava Daughters, and reveled in all manner of friendships. She and Wynne were long-time members of the Horseshoe Bend Country Club, where Lois played competitive bridge into her 90s.

Friends and acquaintances alike embraced Lois for her smarts, warmth, kindness and wisdom, and not least her bracing candor. A stunning redhead, Lois possessed a radiant smile. Any visit with Lois was sure to be a thrill. Preceded in death by Wynne in 2021, Lois is survived by Gary, Scott and Ava, who adore and miss this transcendent child of God.
