Robert Daughters Obituary

Robert Daughters, 87, of Hamill, SD passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Facility in Winner, SD. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 10:00AM at the First Christian Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to memorial service.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Glen "Bob" Daughters, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, with his sons by his side.

Bob was born on August 11, 1938, in Waterloo, New York, to Glen and Margaret (Litzenberger) Daughters. In February of 1943, he moved with his family to South Dakota, settling in Hamill. When the family returned to South Dakota, they took over the Daughters family farm-land that Bob would come to love deeply and devote his life to working. Farming was always at the center of who Bob was. He was a farmer at heart and spent his life caring for the land that meant so much to him.

On August 19, 1962, Bob married the love of his life, Shirley Marlene Habeger, in Witten, South Dakota. Together they built a life on their farm near Hamill, where they raised their two sons, Wade and Bruce. Bob and Shirley shared a love for farming, hunting, and fishing and enjoyed the many simple joys of rural life.

He and Shirley loved spending time camping with their boys and created many lasting memories during weekend trips to Fort Thompson. Bob felt most at home outdoors-whether farming, hunting, or fishing.

Bob was also active in his community. He participated in Bull Creek Township and was a member of the Arrow, Rod and Gun Club as well as the local historical club. Even in his later years, Bob continued to enjoy working the soil. He especially loved tending to his raised garden, where he grew tomatoes and other vegetables.

In 2018, Bob and Shirley moved to Winner, South Dakota, where they continued to enjoy time with family and the community they loved.

Bob will be greatly missed by his loving family: his sons, Wade (Linda) Daughters and Bruce (Amanda) Daughters; his sister, Peggy (Daughters) Sale; his grandchildren, Seth (Danielle) Daughters, Dalton (Taylor) Daughters, Jordan (Amber) Daughters, Ashley (Matt) Weisser, and Haley Wood; and his eleven great-grandchildren, Braylee, Jones, Evy, Dutton, Carson, Lincoln, Hazel, Heston, Piper, Aspen, and Summit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Margaret Daughters, and his beloved wife, Shirley Daughters.

Bob will be remembered for his deep love of family, his lifelong dedication to farming, and the many days he spent outdoors hunting and fishing-doing the things he loved most with the people he loved most. His legacy lives on through the generations of family he cherished so deeply.
