Minerva Phillips Obituary

PHILLIPS, Minerva

Minerva Prendergast Phillips passed away suddenly on September 25, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Born December 28, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama, Minerva was the daughter of Frank E. and Margaret Gay Prendergast. She graduated from Bishop Toolen High School in Mobile and received her B.S. degree from Auburn University where she served as president of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Minerva was the loving wife of Charles M. Phillips, with whom she recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. She was an adoring mother and grandmother and was a friend to many due to her unwavering love and acceptance of others just as they were. A passionate bridge player, she often played in local and out-of-town tournaments and achieved the rank of Life Master. Beyond the game itself, she cherished the community it brought her, cultivating friendships wherever she played.

Minerva's life was defined by her devotion to family, her generosity of spirit, and the joy she found in the people and passions she held dear. Her legacy of kindness, strength, support, and love for others will be remembered by those who knew her.

Minerva is survived by her husband, Charles M. Phillips; son, Charles M. Phillips Jr. (Kinnon), of New Orleans, LA; two grandchildren, Alice M. Phillips, of Brooklyn, NY and Crawford D. Phillips of Denver, CO; two sisters, Susan P. Boyles and Mary P. Roberts, and many friends who are thought of as family. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Gay Phillips.

A memorial Mass will be held in Mobile at St. Joseph Chapel, Springhill College, on October 10, 2025, at 10:30 AM. A gathering of remembrance will be held in Atlanta at a later date.
