I grew up around Phil. But I haven't seen seen him since 1968, when I moved from Opelika to New York. But I knew even then that he would grow up to be a FINE person that cared for others. Mrs Sarah would have it no other way ;-) . So I send my sympathy and best wishes to Mrs Phillip Oliver and family, and to Mrs Sarah and the other relatives.

"I will miss - no, the world will miss Phil Oliver," those were my words when I got the shocking news. From the depths of my heart and the throne room of God, I pray Jesus' comfort, strength and peace during your season of sorrow.
His faith was strong; his good works were evident, and Phil was the answer to Martin King's question, "Life's most urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" May his legacy bring us all comfort. Barbara and family, Priscilla and family, and the Sickle Cell family - You all are in my prayers.

I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the Oliver Family at this difficult time. I knew Phil Oliver because his sister, Priscilla, introduced us when I visited Atlanta. I witnessed his love and passion for the work he did with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia. He truly cared about young people and he lived to serve. He will certainly be missed, but his spirit will live inside all of the people he helped in his lifetime. May he rest in peace.

Coach! That’s what I used to call him and then I called him "Dad" whenever I felt a scolding coming from him. Phil was everything to me, a second dad, coach, mentor, advisor, doctor, inspiration etc.
Coach pretty much went out of his way to do everything for me. Even when I wouldn’t call him for a while, he would call me and scold me on the phone for not calling. I remember when I was torn on what school to attend; Coach came up and told me where to go….one of the best decisions of my life.
Coach touched my life in so many ways that I don’t think there is enough space here for me to describe what he did for me.
My heart is broken, I have lost my guardian, friend, coach, dad, doctor, mentor…..you have left us too soon….way too soon, my mind cannot comprehend the fact that you are no longer a phone call away. I take consolation that you have given me all the tools I need to be who I am today and that you are even closer to me now than ever.
I know you are in a better place now, watching over all of us, whose lives you have tremendously impacted.
Continue to guide us to live the values that you have imparted unto us. God richly bless you and I love you so much.
Mommy Barbara, PO, Tony - May the Lord bless, strengthen and guide you through this period of grief.

I pray that the Oliver family receive the heartfelt comfort and assurance that only God can give and as days go by, you’re strengthened by his unwavering love, protection and provisions. Thank you Phillip J. Oliver III for sharing highlights of your father’s great life experiences with me (coworker/s). Through you, I learned that he was truly a great man of purpose and strong willed enough to help make this world a better place. Your father and his contributions could never be forgotten. Also, it’s plain and obvious to see how much he lives through you already so because of this, we can continue to experience him. Mrs. Oliver, my prayers will be with you wholeheartedly. I wish I was able to say the exact words that could give you the comfort you so much need for the loss of your husband, but I am a living witness to God’s ability to fill your cup with the type of love that cannot be mistaken as being nothing but Him. …you’re answers and strength will come. Oliver family,God Bless and Keep you.

Then I heard a voice from heaven say "Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes" says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them." (Rev 14:13) Surely, Phillip Oliver is resting from his labor here on earth. He was Christ's ambassador on this earth and a drum major for sickle cell patient's everywhere. You will be sorely missed! but you will always be in our hearts as we take up the mantle and carry on your mission and vision. My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the Oliver family. May God bless and comfort you during this time.
