Randall Clokey Obituary

CLOKEY, Randall "Randy"Jay

Randall J. Clokey, 67, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away last week after a long battle with cancer.

He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his zest for life and his love for family and friends.

Born in Germany into a military family, his family returned to the US when he was a baby, living in several locations before settling in Georgia.

Randy was a 1975 graduate of North Clayton High School. Following graduation, he enlisted and proudly served in the US Navy from 1975-1979 aboard the USS Cone DD-866. After leaving the Navy, he worked at Owens Illinois, following which he had a 30+ year career in heating and air, with many long-standing customers.

As a sports fan his whole life, he was an avid athlete and played football and basketball. Later in life he really enjoyed golf. He was a loyal Georgia Tech and Navy fan.

He loved music and a good joke, classic cars, reading and was a widely acclaimed grill master. He was an animal lover with many beloved pets over the years. He was also a handyman who could build and fix just about anything.

Randy was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Randy is survived by wife, Elaine; daughter, Diana; and many beloved family members, including his puppy girls.

For all who knew and loved Randy, it's hard to imagine life without him. We will miss him terribly, but we are thankful he is no longer suffering. He will always be with us in our hearts and memories.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 7 at the First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro located at 1842 Lake Jodeco Road, Jonesboro, GA 30236.

Visitation at 1:00 PM (Sanctuary Entrance). Memorial Service following at 2:00 PM (Sanctuary). Remembrances will be immediately following the service (Family Life Center). One benefit of my time in the Navy was a 47-year friendship. I met Randy in January 1978 on the Cone. Randy was highly respected on the ship by enlisted and officers alike. He knew his job, he worked hard, and he could always be counted on to crack a joke at just the right time to ease a tense situation.
Going to miss my friend. The world is a lesser place without Randy.

Although we worked together for only a few months, "Cloke" was a key influencer of my Navy experience. It was a pleasure and an honor to serve with him in `78. Fair winds and following seas, shipmate. We have the watch.

We lost another great Sailor, was prould to know him. He served on a great ship. I was on the Cone in the early 50,s. This still makes us brothers and ship mates. Rest in peace.
