Joe and I were born in a generation called the Silent Majority. No jet planes, TV's, computers, cell phones, credit cards, air conditioning. Joe's formative years was discipline and a sense of duty to family and country. We were assertive team players. There was a standard for right and wrong. Avoid debt and pay cash. Marriage was for life and divorce was a forbidden subject.
Our generation was taught to be civic minded and voting was a privilege. Joe and I were taught to respect our elders and people in our community.
Joe and I have been friends for many years. We both attended Wynnton School and graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia. Joe was a great athlete and excelled in everything all his life. He was a man's man and had a certain charisma about him. He was always a gracious host and planner.
He married an "angel", Beth Willingham from Columbus. They were always the all American couple. We went on many wonderful trips together.
Joe was a "giver" and his favorite organizations were Georgia Tech and the YMCA. He sponsored young men scholarships at Georgia Tech. Joe was one of my best friends and you could always count on him. He will be sorely missed. God bless his family and many friends.
Your Pal and friends,
Mike and Leinani Tillery
