Sandra WERTHMANN Obituary
Family-Placed Death Notice
WERTHMANN, Sandra Ms. Sandra Jones Volkert Hofman Werthmann, age 75, of Atlanta, passed away Sunday, January 05, 2014, at Piedmont Hospital. Ms. Werthmann was born August 10, 1938, to E. Sam and Delphine Jones. A graduate of Northside High School, she went on to attend Sullens College in Bristol, Virginia. She was a prima ballerina with both Southern Ballet Company and with the Nashville City Ballet. She also taught dance in Nashville and later served in the auxiliary of the Miami City Ballet. Her hobbies included backgammon, tennis, and the arts. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, George A. Volkert, Jr., and Mary Jo Leddy Volkert of Atlanta; granddaughter Olivia Delphine Volkert; sister Delphine Jones of Rutherfordton, NC, and brothers E. Sam Jones, Jr., and Patrick G. Jones, of Atlanta. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 08, 2014, from 6:30 until 8:30 at H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill, followed by a graveside service Thursday, January 09, 2014 at 1 o'clock at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, officiated by nephew Hazen S. Stevens of Lawrenceville and Dr. Charles Qualls, associate pastor at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the International House of Prayer, 1625 Collins Hill Rd., Lawrenceville, GA 30043.. From the days I've known Sandra as a ballerina, she has been full of life, vivacious and an absolute joy to be with. She is truly a warm and caring person and I will miss her greatly. Her departure from all of us is way too early. Sandra dear - may God hold you in the palm of his hand and keep you safe and happy. We love you......
