Family-Placed Death Notice

BALDWIN, Sarah SARAH ELIZABETH THRASHER BALDWIN Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Thrasher Baldwin, 95 of Madison died March 11, 2009. She was born October 27, 1913 in Atlanta. She was the daughter of Barton Edmonds Thrasher and Hattie Belle Quillian Thrasher. Elizabeth was a graduate of Decatur High School and Agnes Scott College. She was an accomplished pianist having studied at the Atlanta Conservatory of Music and Agnes Scott College. Elizabeth worked side by side with her husband Asbury as the bookkeeper for their drugstore, Baldwin's Pharmacy. She was a member of Madison First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Loyal Daughters Sunday School class and the Elizabeth Harris Baldwin circle. Over the years she taught Sunday school, was a MYF counselor and held several offices on the church council. She was a member of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, Madison-Morgan Historical Society, the AAUW, Eastern Star and a past member of the DAR and UDC. She participated in many community activities during her lifetime and was a volunteer for many groups including Cub Scouts, PTA, Hospital Auxiliary and other charitable organizations. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three brothers, Edmonds, Robert and William Thrasher. She is survived by three sisters-in-law: Mattie J. Thrasher, Helen Thrasher and Mary Baldwin Harris; also a daughter and two sons, Anne B. Satterfield and husband Jack, Judge A. Quillian Baldwin, Jr. and wife Judy and Barton W. Baldwin and wife Brenda. She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Steve Satterfield & Angie, Sarah S. Logan, Julia S. Loudermilk & Michael, Asbury Quillian Baldwin III "Trey" & Lisa, Lei B. Lydle & Chris, Nicole B. Beale & Seth and Whit Baldwin. She leaves ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Building Fund at Madison First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 350 Madison, GA 30650. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 PM at Madison First United Methodist Church. A.E. Carter Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

We were saddened to hear of Mrs. Baldwin's passing. She was loved and admired by all that knew her. She helped establish her husband's lifelong drugstore career, besides giving time to her family, her church and community. We feel blessed to have known this lovely lady.
