Thomas Hallam Obituary

HALLAM, Thomas Walter

Thomas Walter Hallam II died unexpectedly on December 26, 2025, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He was born in Florida to Philip Glendon Hallam and Phyllis Hession Hallam on September 14, 1948.

Tom was raised in a USAF family and lived in many locations in the US and overseas; these included Nagoya and Tokyo, Japan and Athens, Greece. Tom graduated from Nasson College, Maine.

After college, he attended USAF pilot training and became a pilot for the Maine Air National Guard flying F-101 and F-102 aircraft. Tom was a pilot for Delta Airlines where he became a Captain and Line Check Airman. After his retirement from Delta, Tom flew for and worked in executive positions for other international airlines. Among those were Ethiopian Airlines, Air Astana of Kazakhstan. He was the CEO of Soman Air in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Tom became Chief Operation Officer of Pacific Northwest Airlines in Anchorage, Alaska then returned to Kazakhstan as Director of Air Safety Management at Air Astana.

Beyond aviation, Tom was deeply committed to cultural and civic leadership. He was founder and president of the Georgia Philharmonic (formerly Sandy Springs Chamber Orchestra). He was a member of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Advisory Council, New Bedford, MA and previously served as Chairman of the Board. He also served on the Executive Committee Member of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and was president of the North Metro Arts Roundtable in Atlanta.

Tom enjoyed boating, sailing and was an accomplished cook. He especially enjoyed entertaining friends and family.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel Philip G. Hallam, and mother, Phyllis Hession Hallam; and his brother, Philip G. Hallam, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ava, of Darmouth, Massachusetts; his children: Shelby Burger and her husband, John, of Anchorage, Alaska, Megan Hallam and her spouse, Jennifer Clark, of Kennesaw, Georgia, Lindsay Hallam, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Scott Brown and his wife, Brandy Mann, of Reno, Nevada, and Morgan Brown Hallam, of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; his sister, Linda White, of Westerville, Ohio; his brothers, William J. Hallam and his wife, Susan, of Roswell, Georgia, and Stephen C. Hallam and his wife, Debbie, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; along with 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A wake will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate, Massachusetts. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, with burial immediately thereafter in the Fairview Cemetary-Trinity Park Scituate, Massachusetts. A reception will follow from 3:00-5:00 PM at 824 Tucker Rd., Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
