Over thirty years of friendship across even states and continents and many phases of life. Valerie Boyd was always there for my husband, Daniel Minter and I. What a gift she is to humanity!

Our family holds all of the family and close friends of Valerie in our prayers. The loss of Valerie is profound as there will never be an equal to her spirit, humbleness and excellence. We met back in Atlanta decades ago during her time at HealthQuest Magazine with Sara Lomax Reese. That new wave Harlem Renaissance as we called it provided some of the most memorable times of our lives. We were in lock step with her during the journey of "Wrapped In Rainbows," and always kept in touch no matter where time and space took us. I affectionately called her Mecca Woman because of the vast depth of everything she encompassed. The light in our lives now shines brighter than ever and generations that have been touched by her will forever carry her flame. Rest In Eternal Peace and Power dear friend.

To The Boyd's Family,
My prayer and sympathy goes out to you and family at this time. Valerie was a very good friend of my sister, Sarah Minnifield. Continuing to lift the family up in prayer. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

I had the great privilege of meeting Valerie at Chautauqua a few years ago and we spent some quality time together. I then read her Hurston bio and heard her speak. What a wonderful human being and gifted writer.

I remember when her biography of Zora Neale Hurston came out, it opened a whole universe to me. I am grateful for her gift and sad not to see more of her work.
