David Allen "Freddie" Duskin obituary

David Duskin Obituary

Celebration of Life
David (Freddie) Allen Duskin was born Dec. 9, 1947 and left us to join many loved ones on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.
Dave was the son of Benjamin Harrison (Shorty) and Lois Mac (Clemsen) Duskin. Dave was born less than a year after his older brother Dan, and was followed closely by his sisters Connie and then Karen.
He grew up an avid and talented athlete. His joy of participation in sports was overshadowed only by the love of his family. His favorite topic of conversation was his eight grandchildren.
He graduated from AHS in 1966 and attended Marshalltown Community College for two years. It was there that he met and married Tobi Saigh, the mother of his two beloved sons Chad Michael and Christopher Allen. He then transferred to Yankton College in Yankton, S. D. where he attended class and played football and baseball for the Greyhounds. The family then moved to Madison, S. D. where he graduated in May 1972 from Dakota State University.
Dave and Carol (Fletcher) were united in marriage on Dec. 30, 1972 at the home of his parents. Born to them was their only child, daughter Carrie Ann (Fritz).
Working for 25 years at Glacier, he finally found his dream job in 2003 when he became manager of Nishna Hills Golf Club. He loved people and he loved golf, so found the position quite rewarding.
He made the difficult choice to retire in 2009. That fall, he began substitute teaching for the Atlantic Community School District as well as for CAM. He loved helping the young people and enjoyed being a positive influence on their lives. Having known many of the youngsters from the Nishna Hills Junior Golf program, they sometimes found it hard to address him as Mr. Duskin and not "Freddie."
Dave had many accomplishments in his life that so many only dream about. A perfect 300 game in bowling and a hole in one in golf; a true sports oddity accomplished by very few but, of course, matched by his older brother Dan. Competition is always good for the soul. He was inducted in the Yankton College Greyhound Greats in both football and baseball. He was a grad assistant coach for the Dakota State Trojans in the Boot Hill Bowl in 1971. A game in which his future brother-in-law Daryl Fletcher, as quarterback, led the team to a victory after being down 20-3 at halftime. This game has been a topic of many lively conversations over the years.
He was very active until his illness left him unable to participate in many of the activities he loved. The final journey of the last nine months began with the first of two liver transplants on Dec, 30,2011. Dave and Carol's 39th wedding anniversary. From that day until the end, he fought with all he had, never giving up staying hopeful for the future.
Please join Dave's family as they celebrate Dave's life on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Atlantic High School Commons at 2 p.m. It will be a time of sharing and remembrance of a man who will be dearly missed by so many. You will be invited to share any memories or thoughts you may have of your times with Dave. We ask that you honor his memory by your presence and by wearing your favorite athletic apparel.
Living on to cherish his memory is a family that will miss him dearly: his wife, Carol; his daughter Carrie Ann (Dennis) Franks and their children Mercedes, Dennis David and Isabelle of Omaha; his son Chad Michael (Mary) and children Jack and Bella of Marshalltown; son Christopher Allen (Angie) and children Ally, Tess, and Ella of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; brother Dan, sisters Connie (Larry) Drees of Exira, and Karen (Del) Wesack of Ankeny; sister-in-law Janet (Bill) Larsen of Hartford, S. D.; brother-in-law Daryl (Jane) Fletcher, of Elk Point, S. D.; many nieces and nephews.
Dave was welcomed into heaven by his maternal grandparents, Henry and Alma Clemsen; paternal grandparents, Harry and Elsie Duskin; his mother and father, Shorty and Lois Duskin; his parents-in-la,. Buck and Ethel Fletcher; his nephew, Dax Daniel Duskin; his nephew, Benji William Larsen; and his brother-in-law, Del Wesack.
Thank you for helping our family as we cope with a devastating loss.

Being Freddie and Carols neighbor for years, watching Fritz grow up and then Mercedes and Cassie playing together was such a fun time of my life. Remembering the fun times, the hard times, the projects Carol and I would start, just to get Freddie to finish them as we had no clue what we were doing. I can still see the look on his face :) You will be truly missed Freddie. To Carol and the family, you have the memories, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I remember walking the halls of the old high school laughing and joking with Dave and remembering just how much we both loved sports. He's the one that gave me the nickname "manny". Won't be the same coming back to Atlantic and not seeing Dave around, good by buddy, until later!
