Mr. Lewis was one of my favorite teachers. He explained geometry so well that I actually understood it! And it was such fun to make the geometric string art that he displayed in the math room. As a basketball coach, he was so-o patient with us girls. His gentleness and kindness were traits that I admired. We tested him in Driver's Ed, but he always kept us on the straight and narrow road. Ron and I extend our sympathy for your loss. May God comfort you at this time.

We always enjoyed Gene when he did carpenter work at the Walnut Grove Research Farm, where our family lived for many years and Collins worked. He kind of became "one of the guys" out at the farm and everyone always enjoyed his wit and wisdom.
Our deepest prayers and sympathy to your family.

Many good memories go through my mind as I think of Gene (Mr. Lewis). Going to the Lewis' house with Cindy in elementary, in 9th grade math, sports, and visiting with Shirley and him long after we were out of school. There was always a "hi, how are you doing?" Brent made the comment to me when I told him of Gene's passing, what a great teacher he was, a little loud at times but a really great teacher!! Shirley, Gary, Cindy, and your families, we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to you.

I'll never forget 9th grade in the Lewis school with Coach Lewis. He is a teacher that I always remember fondly and enjoyed his classes. Both Mike and I are so sorry for you loss.

Gene was a kind and trusting man.He seemed to have a way of accepting life I hope to have someday. Two days before he left I laid my hand on his head and he looked up at me and smiled with peace in his eyes.He was not at all taken by the intimate act.He welcomed me to be close, yet we had only met a few times. That was his way.

I didn't have the honor of knowing Mr. Lewis, but I had the wonder of hearing what a great man he was during his time here on Earth. He will be missed by many, but his legacy of being a great family man, a great friend, and a great educator is timeless.
My condolences to the the Lewis family.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Lewis' passing. He was one of my favorite coaches and teachers - a really good man and a fine example to all of his students. My sincere sympathies to his family.

I meet him when he finished my parents kitchen. They had had 2 other contractors who either didn't show up when they said they would or did less than great work and when my mother was ready to go insane they called Gene and he agreed to be there and finish the job.
He was a man of his word. He was always there till the job was done, put in extra hours on the weekend, and did a wonderful job. Their kitchen is still great and has always been a gathering spot for family get togethers. He had a great talent with his hands, told many stories, and was always very giving to his wife.

I remember Mr. Lewis' patience with me in Algebra! He tutored me, but I never did figure out what x and y equaled! I appreciated his time and as a teacher now, I know that is the most important thing we can give our students. More than that, I remember how kind he and Shirley were to us when I played with Tami at the Bannister house across the road. God's peace be to all of you!
