Our sincere condolences to all of the McSweeney family on the loss of Father John. He was always so pleasant and full of charm, and such a great historian on Ireland and Vermont, with so many stories of both. His long life and many accomplishments are a comfort to any of us who had the pleasure of knowing Father John.
Sincerely, Maurice and Jeanne Mahoney

Our sympathy to the family of Father. A wonderful Priest and when he saw you, he always had a huge smile and nod, we remembering seeing him walking down the aisle when he said Mass at Our Lady of Grace. Eternal rest to him and the perpetual light shine on him.

I first met Father John in the 1970s when I worked at the Catholic Tribune; he was chancellor for the diocese. Although we interacted on business issues, he never stopped being a caring friend, devoted priest, and jovial Irishman. Happy to read he carried these virtues throughout his life and has now arrived at his celestial home.

Fr (Msgr) John was a gift to so many families in this Diocese--a great man and dedicated priest, full of Irish tales and stories of his travels. His Lord will surely hold him in the palm of His hand for eternity.
Thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss.
