This was just passed on to me. I've often wondered what happened to Gibbons. We served on the UGC Taney for about 6 months before he was transferred. But we became good friends. We even became roommates 2 years later when I returned from VN. We had an apartment at 17th & Noe in SF. 6 blocks from the Filmore West. The photo is of my 2 best friends... Gibby and Chuck England hanging out at Government Island. love you Gibby

Uncle Gib,
I really don't know where to start..Your the best! No matter what teenage problems I had you never judged and the short visits we had, you always would embrace us, and the days and miles that we had spent apart seemed to disapear and the bond remain strong. I was always appreciative of your love and as I grew older so did the appreciation and respect that I have for you. My children adore you, and always looked forward to visits with the family. You and the family accepted them as mine and it means the world to me, and them. This is what family means, to be there for eachother and support one another in life. Thank you for your support and guidance. Every hug you gave, I could feel it's lasting effect, and the love that came with it would embrace me in all the car rides home, there was no question what your family means to you, and what you mean to us. I love you dearly and will miss you sooooo much..xoxox's
Love Kim

Gib I don't know where to start. First there were four. Then after we lost mom and dad, you would tell me, there's just you and me sis. Now there's just me and our memories. We were a close military family, all we had were each other, because we were never stationed close to our extended family. We did miss our grandparents and other relatives a lot, but with dad in the service we didn't have a choice. I think you'll agree Gib the best place was Washington. It's a good thing dad loved to hunt and fish, or we might have gotten pretty hungry, as he didn't make a lot of money in the service. Remember those fishing days when we would be in that 10 foot boat from dawn til dusk, and there were many. We had to learn to get along, and make our own entertainment. Then there was the time daddy took our dog Duke with him duck hunting. He was going to teach him to retrieve ducks. Duke saw some ducks flying over them, and proceeded to jump on daddys shoulders with his front paws, so he could see the ducks better. He started barking and scared them all away. Our dad was so mad, the air was blue. Duke didn't go duck hunting again. It was a funny site to see my dad in the cat tails with Duke's paws on his back shoulders barking at the ducks. Those 3 years there, all we did was hunt, fish, and go on dads famous car rides. We'd get in the car and we never knew where he was headed. He was the kind that loved to take that dirt road in the middle of no where, to see where it went, and in Washington there were a lot of them. It was a special treat when mom and daddy would take us to the show on base. Those were tough times, but they made them the best. We hunted, fished, and did everything together as a family. Those were the best times. I think you'll agree with me on that one Gib. Gib I never thought I would be writing to you like this. I wanted more memories with you. You went too soon sweetie. Now your with mom, dad, gramma and grampa, and all our immediate family. Give them my love, and also a hug, as only you can give. Tell them I miss them and think of them often. Your sis will miss you more than you'll ever know. If only I could have hugged you one last time. I love you sweetie. See you in my dreams. Your sis

Gibby, I always felt you were more like my brother. The miles might have kept us apart, but that never changed how much I loved you. I'm sure you and Uncle Lar are having a brew. My love to him, and the rest that are there with you. Thank you for giving me such wonderful memories, I will cherish them always. Keep your "CHIN UP CHICKEN"
You will be in my heart forever. MUCH LOVE
