Austin Weaver Obituary

MORAVIA - Austin G. "Aussie" Weaver, 83, of Old State Road, Moravia, (commonly referred to as "The Canadian Side of Montville"), died May 1, 2019, at his home with his family at his bedside after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Aussie was born Nov. 26, 1935 in Auburn, a son of the late Claude E. and Alice Gobel Weaver. He was a resident of Moravia all of his life and had owned and operated Weaver's Garage and Weaver's Auto Sales in Moravia for several years and was a school bus driver for the Moravia School District. He served in the Army from 1958-1964. He was a classic car buff and an active member of the Moravia community in several organizations, which included the Moravia Fire Department, VFW Post #7127, Moravia Rotary Club, First Congregational Church, now the United Methodist Church, Fillmore Auto Show, and he had served as councilman on the Moravia Town Board for several years.

Aussie will be remembered by many for his quick wit, storytelling abilities, endless jokes, and classic cars. He took great pride in maintaining their beautiful lawn and creekside property, where he and his wife, Nancy, would often sit and enjoy a cold drink.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Bergenstock Weaver, of Moravia; son, Mark Weaver, of Bluffton, S.C.; daughter, Cindy (Michael) Reeves, of San Juan Bautista, Calif.; six grandchildren, Anna, Patrick, Ciarra, Ashley, Daniel, and Cayla; sister, Millicent Redmond, of Moravia; sister-in-law, Betty Weaver, of Moravia, and a few nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, William Weaver, and a granddaughter, Lauren.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019, in Christ United Methodist Church, Moravia, with Rev. Wayne Hampton officiating.
