Catherine (Bates) Rizzo

AUBURN - Catherine Bates Rizzo, 96, formerly of Franklin Street Road, Auburn, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, at The Commons.

A native of Deery, Pa., she was the daughter of Stanley and Anna (Thoryk) Bates. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam Rizzo.

Catherine had retired from the U.S. Government Dept. of Defense in Syracuse, N.Y. She was a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Church, Auburn.

Surviving are nieces, nephews, Carl Rogers, Washington Township, Mich., Kathy Syzmanski, Sterling Heights, Mich., Charles Frishcosy, Wentzville, Mo., Sandra Koppin, Applegate, Mich.; grandnieces, Crystal and Jennifer Rogers; godson, Bill Vivenzio, Skaneateles, N.Y.

At Catherine's request, a Private Prayer Service was held at Farrell's Funeral Service, Inc. with Rev. Louis Vasile, officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

I worked with Kay in Hunter Plaza and the Federal Building in Syracuse for many years. I remember Kay as the sweetest of coworkers. I´m very sorry for your loss.
