David Gower Obituary

David John Gower

October 23, 1955 - January 26, 2025

SKANEATELES - David John Gower, 69, of Skaneateles, passed away at his home on January 26, 2025. David was born on October 23, 1955 to Leonard and Sally Netti Gower in Auburn, NY.

After graduating from Auburn High School, he went on to be a Hair Stylist before starting a long career with the NYS Canal Corp. as a Marine Engineer. David was proud of his 34 years with the Canal, and found great fulfillment in being one of the last "Canalers" to witness the transition from barge traffic to recreational waterway. Once retired, he spent his time outdoors enjoying the sun, horse racing, and the occasional game of golf.

Being an avid Raiders fan and an all around lover of sports, he made his biggest imprint with his annual summer basketball leagues where he not only organized, but refereed for over 40 years. Anyone who knew David can attest to two things for certain: his sense of humor and his need to ensure everyone had enough to eat.

David was predeceased by his father, Leonard Gower. He is survived by his mother, Sally Gower; and daughter, Kaitlin Avery (Chase); as well as his brother, Tony Gower.

Visitation will be held at Farrell's Funeral Service, Inc 84 South Street Auburn, NY on Friday, February 7, 2025 between 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please remember David with donations to the ASPCA , 41 York street Auburn NY 13021.

"Uncle Dave" was a great friend to our dog, Ivy, and he never missed a chance to give her treats when she was walking around his block. She knew him and loved him, and we are going to miss him sitting out on the porch and shouting, "Ivy!" when she came charging up his walk. He fed the birds and squirrels as well, and had such a good heart.
