Doris Eidel
June 6, 1935 - July 18, 2024
Doris Eidel passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 18, 2024 at the age of 89.
Doris was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 6, 1935 to parents Harry and Martha Rabinowitz. She was raised in Brooklyn and then lived for a time in Flushing, NY along with her sister Roberta (Wittels) who predeceased her, and brother Howard (Ross). She graduated from Midwood High School in Brooklyn, NY and then from Mills College with a teaching degree. Doris married Zeneth ("Zen") Eidel, an artist and advertising agency owner, on June 5, 1955, and they remained married for 60 years until Zen's death on July 22, 2015. Doris and Zen raised their three sons in Briarcliff Manor, NY where they built their home and resided for 50 years. After working as an English teacher in her 20's and then raising a family, Doris worked as a travel agent for more than 20 years.
Doris will always be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family. She was an excellent bridge player, becoming an American Contract Bridge League Life Master and played until the months before her passing. She enjoyed traveling the world, interior decorating, watching the news, good jokes, playing and watching tennis matches, beading, and planning family gatherings. Doris especially loved to attend events at the Auburn Public Theater, and frequented Cafe 108 in Auburn which supports the theater's activities.
Doris is survived and will be dearly remembered by her sons: Carey, Michael (Lisa Price), and Eric (Kelly Kaufman); her five grandchildren: Gideon, Gianna, Heschel, Lucie, and Henry, her extended family Angela Daddabbo and Alex Forbes; loving friend, Joanne O'Connor, and many others. We will forever miss Doris's humor, charm, and most of all her love of family. Her memory will be a continuing blessing to us all. The family thanks the staff at The Commons on St. Anthony for their kind and attentive care of Doris during her last weeks.
