AUBURN | Eleanor Lawrence Button, of Throop Avenue, Auburn, passed into glory on Friday, July 26, 2013.
Eleanor was just a few days from reaching her 90th birthday on Aug. 7. In 1942, Eleanor married her high school sweetheart, Howard Button.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Howard "Bud" Button; her three sons, Gerald (Pat) Button, of Weedsport, Roger (Pauline) Button, of Auburn, and Timothy (Melissa) Button, of Geneva; her three grandchildren, Kevin Button, of Auburn, Katrina Button, of Ithaca, and Ryan Button, of New York City; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Jake, both of Auburn; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Bertha (Van Dusen) Lawrence; her sister, Marion Brown; her grandson, Scott Button, and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Button.
Eleanor was a 1941 graduate of Elbridge Central School. She was a very talented athlete and practiced many hobbies, such as sewing, painting, and cooking. Eleanor was employed by Caulkins Fabric Store for many years as well as Wegmans in Auburn, until her retirement in 1980. After retirement, Eleanor and Howard enjoyed traveling, and spending their winters in Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., 197 South St., Auburn, with the Rev. James Main, of Locke, officiating. Burial will be in the Sennett Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with Eleanor's family from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.
