PORT BYRON -- Frederick J. Vivenzio, 66, of 8820 W. Loop Road, Port Byron, passed away Monday, May 3, 2004, at home, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Auburn, the son of the late Frederick and Irene Donnelly Vivenzio, and had been an area resident his whole life. Fred was a Navy veteran, with more than 20 years of service to our country. He was director of the Cayuga County Veterans Services from 1992 to 1996. He also served as naval recruiter at various locations, with the most recent being in Mattydale. Fred was a life member of American Legion Post 911, Cato; former commander of Disabled American Veterans, Joseph E. Rice Memorial Chapter 103; the Vietnam Veterans of America Inc.; American Military Retirees Association; a member of the American Legion Mynderse Rice Post 97, VFW Post 1975, as well as the American Veterans, Fleet Reserves Association in Syracuse. He was a grand steward of the Port Byron Masonic Lodge 130.
He is survived by his loving companion for many years, Shirley Moore of Port Byron; three sons, Frederick J. III and his wife Joanne of Auburn, Robert J. and his wife Theresa of Weedsport and Michael A. of Oxnard Calif.; three daughters, Christine Neabel and her husband Nick of Auburn, Sherry Musso and her husband Mario of Auburn, and Theresa Hensel and her husband John of Albany; the mother of his children, Marlene Tamburo Vivenzio; a sister, Rita Harper and her husband Harry of Auburn; an aunt, Rose Sabatino of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and David.
Friends are invited to call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, May 5, at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Funeral services will immediately follow the calling hours, with the Rev. James Enright officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
