Hazel Harris Poole

AUBURN < Hazel Harris Poole, 76, of Oak Creek Apartments, Auburn, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 4, 2008, at Auburn Memorial Hospital. She was born in Orwell, Pa., the daughter of the late Persons and Mae Smith Harris and had been an area resident for most of her life. Hazel was a member and very active in the Light House Church in South Butler. Prior to her retirement, Hazel had been employed for more than 25 years at the former Dunn & McCarthy Shoe Company in Auburn. One of her favorite hobbies was knitting and crocheting for family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Hoey and her husband, Thomas, of Auburn, and Joanne Townsend and her husband, Thomas, of Montezuma; two sisters, Marion Webster and her husband Ronald, of Pennsylvania, and Betty LaClaire, of Auburn; two brothers, Edward Harris and his wife Florence, of Elmira, and Clifford Harris, of Auburn; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband Vincent, in 2005; two sisters and two brothers. There are no calling hours. Private services and burial in South Butler Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made in Hazel"s memory to the SPCA, 41 York St., Auburn, NY 13021 or to a charity of one"s choice. Arrangements are by the Pettigrass Funeral Home.
