John "Jack" Louis Erving, Sr.
April 17, 1937 - March 26, 2024
Our father and papa died March 26, 2024.
Jack was born April 17, 1937, to the late John and Evelyn (Vandenberg) Erving in Auburn, NY. He was married to Carolyn (Farrell) for sixty years prior to her death in 2018.
Jack is survived by daughters: Tammi and husband, Tim, Terri; son, Tom and wife, Kirsten. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Whitney, BJ, Madison, Catelyn; and great-grandson, Johnny. His grandchildren gave him great joy. He was predeceased by son, John L. Erving, Jr. and brother, James.
Jack began working at the age of 15 to support his mother and younger brother after his father died suddenly. He spent most of his life working in grocery stores, including owning The Country Store in Niles, NY with his wife. He loved the grocery business and even in retirement, he would walk the aisles and critique the displays - a grocery man till the end.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 2, 2024, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, NC at 10:00 a.m.
A graveside service will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Auburn, NY.
