John Mathews Obituary
BRIDGEPORT | John M. Mathews Jr., 71, of Lestina Beach Road, Bridgeport, died Monday, June 16 , 2014 at his home.
Born in Auburn on March 5, 1943, he was the son of the late John M. Mathews Sr. and Florence Schrader Mathews, of Weedsport. John was a graduate of Weedsport High School and was a retired truck driver with Preston Trucking of Syracuse. He was an exceptional driver, awarded a Million Mile Certificate for safe driving, as well as winning the National Truck Driver Rodeo Competition. He was an avid hunter, a N.R.A. Member, and known for his collection of John Deere Tractors and memorabilia.
John is survived by his mother, Florence Schrader Mathews, of Weedsport; his sister, Carol Witchey, of Scipio Center; two brothers, James Mathews and his wife, Patricia, of Weedsport, and Roger Mathews and his wife, Katherine, of Syracuse; along with several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Weedsport. Friends are invited to call on the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport.
