MORAVIA - Larry R. Hilliard, 86, of Moravia, NY, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Larry was born December 5, 1936 in the Town of Ledyard, a son of George B. Hilliard, Sr. and Frances Gardner. He was a graduate of Genoa School, Class of 1954.
He had been employed at SCM for 30 years, while also working part-time as a carpenter alongside his father and brothers.
After retiring from SCM, he continued working full time as a carpenter and ran the family business, Hilliard & Sons Construction, for many years. Also, in earlier years, he worked for a few local farmers.

Larry volunteered with the local boy scout troops and as a SCAT Van driver for many years. Most recently he resided at Millstream Court with his wife of 64 years Sharon Smith Hilliard.
Also surviving are his four children: Brian Hilliard (Lorrie), Michael Hilliard, Steven Hilliard (Brenda) and Bonnie Ferguson (Mark); seven grandchildren; brothers: David, Paul, and James Hilliard; sisters: Helen Dwyer and Elsie Rose; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers: Donald, George, Charles, Robert, Thomas, and Raymond, and a sister, Sarah Schoubye.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 3:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 36 Church St., Moravia. Following the service will be visitation and a reception from 4:00-6:00 in the Church Fellowship Hall.

I remember that Mr. Hilliard and his wife were married the same day as my parents: July 25, 1959. After we moved away and would return for a visit, we saw them at church and they were always so kind. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time.
