ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Pauline McGuerty, 90, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Moravia, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016. Born in Massachusetts, she was the only surviving child of the late Frank and Catherine Milne.
Growing up, she graduated at the top of her class from Winchester High School, Massachusetts in 1943, and was immediately employed as a secretary to the Superintendent of Schools there. She also studied piano at the Phil Saltman School of Music in Boston and taught piano for several years.
She was married to the late Bernard F. McGuerty Jr. in 1947 and together they published several weekly newspapers after moving to New York in 1958. From 1980 until 1984, Pauline worked at Cornell University as an assistant to the Director at the College of Engineering.
In 1984, they moved to Cape Cod and later to Port Orange, Fla., before moving back to Standart Woods in Auburn, where Mr. McGuerty died in 1986. Pauline moved back to Moravia and was employed at the Republican Register, then and now owned by her son, Butch, until she retired in 2005 and moved to the Boyle Center.
Pauline was very happy at the Boyle Center and was very active there, volunteering, singing with the 80s Ladies, playing dominos, bowling, playing bunco, and also cards. She also taught line dancing, retiring in 2011 but still attended classes.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant brother, Francis, and a granddaughter, Stephanie "Stevie" Lillie.
She is survived by four children, Bernard III "Butch" and wife, Nancy, of Moravia, Jane and husband, Bruce Healy, of Englewood, Fla., Brian and wife, Diana, of Englewood, Fla., and Diane, of Venice, Fla.; eight beloved grandchildren, Britan (Frank) Marinelli, Susan, Dr. Allison (Dr. Milton Silva), Heather, Bernard IV "Ben," and Patrick (Stephanie) McGuerty, and Jennifer and Kathryn Talbot, Esq.; six precious great-grandchildren, Abigail and Sydney Marinelli, and Joel, Cristina, Tomas, and Evelyn Silva.
Private services will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn at the convenience of the family, with private burial in Kelloggsville Cemetery.
