I will always remember Mt. Alberti. He was hard on the outside but gentle on the inside. He cared about his students. His lessons kept me safe through the years. He will truly be missed. class of 1969.

To the Alberti Family:
Mr. Alberti was never my gym teacher, because I was on the other side with the girls. I do remember that he always had time to listen to any student who needed him. He made a great impact on my life with his positive attitude and good nature.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Coach Alberti was definitely ‘old school’ when it came to teaching phys ed. His emphasis on military style formations and calisthenics helped prepare me for the Army in the early 1970s (none of the drill sergeants were as tough as he was). He also always offered a strong helping hand to those needing that ‘extra’ incentive to perform (and I was very glad not to be one of those). I didn’t wrestle for him on the team, but I still remember some of the moves he taught us in gym class – especially the maneuver where you dive low to grab the opponents legs for a take down. My first attempt using the move led to a collision with the other guy’s knee into my forehead, a concussion and a plum sized hematoma, which was followed by a walk to the nurse’s office and an early dismissal for me. At the next class, he told me ‘good move the other day – you would have taken him down if you weren’t unconscious!’ The bump was almost gone and he followed that with a ‘now get back in there and do it right this time!’ I also remember him ‘volunteering’ several of us to help with a sports orientation program with the A.A. Gates elementary students in 1967 – he surprised us by showing a softer side with the little ones. In looking back at my Port Byron school days (1959-1970), I’ll remember him as one of the best.

Bob was a great inspiration for me when I started at Port Byron School. He was an excellent person, as well as a coach and family man. He taught me a lot when I coached the modified wrestling team. He will be missed.
