Teresa Platt Obituary

GENOA | Teresa Platt, 92, of Genoa (town of Venice), passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at her home. Mrs. Platt was born June 11, 1920 in Betula, Pa., a daughter of the late Frank Teodor and Pelagia (Shwahla) Pancio and was a 1937 graduate of Auburn High School. She married John R. Platt on July 10, 1944. Following John's service in World War II, they purchased their dairy farm in Venice in September 1945, which continues as a family operation. In addition to Teresa's full-time involvement with farming and of raising her family, she had also been employed for 25 years with H & R Block Inc. in Auburn, prior to retirement in 1994. She is survived by her five children, Judith (Jay) Wetherby, James, Jeffrey (Shari), Jerry (Beth) and Tom (Linda); eight grandchildren, Kyle Pratt, Carrie and John Wetherby, Justine and Jesse Platt, Mollie, Andrew and Michael Platt; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Devin Platt and a brother, Paul (Anne) Panson; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Teresa was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John, on May 21, 2010; her three brothers, Wasil, Daniel, and Peter Pancio; her five sisters, Mary Pancio, Anastasia “Nell� Panko, Anna Bunga, Rosalia Greve, and Mary T. Hoxie. There are no calling hours. Services will be held privately. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Teresa's memory to the Genoa Fire Department Rescue Fund, PO Box 82, Genoa, NY 13071, or to Southern Cayuga Ambulance, PO Box 7, Poplar Ridge, NY 13139.

Aunt Terry was, truly, a hard working spouse and mother at the family farm in Genoa. For years she hosted a large family Thanksgiving and it, truly, was full of ambience with the traditional "country setting". All my T. holidays since still have that template in the background.
