Tyrone "Ty" John Sheils
1943 ~ 2024
KING FERRY - Tyrone (Ty) John Sheils, 80, of King Ferry, NY, passed suddenly on June 12, 2024.
Ty was born on December 28, 1943, in Auburn, NY. He was the son of the late Lyman J. Sheils, Sr. and Jesse (Perkins) Sheils. Tyrone married Beverly Ann (Youngs) Sheils in 1965, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in King Ferry, NY.
Ty loved growing up on the family farm which he worked hard throughout his life to improve and expand to its current size.
Ty is survived by his wife, Beverly, of 59 years; his children: Brian (Rita), Michael (Cathleen) and Steven (Kathy) of King Ferry, NY, and Susan (Sheils) Conklin, of Moravia, NY; his six grandchildren: Tyler and Aidan Sheils, Christopher and Elizabeth Conklin, Gwen and Reid Sheils; and his brother, Lyman (Shirley) Sheils, of Bath, NY. Ty is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Stephen Conklin.
Ty graduated from King Ferry Central School in 1961. He was an active FFA member, attending the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, MO.
After graduation, he focused on working with his father, wife, and family to develop Sheils Farms. In 2019, Sheils Farms celebrated 100 years of family ownership with a float in the annual Wheat Harvest Festival Parade.
Ty represented Pioneer Seeds for 50 years and cherished the relationships he had with his customers.
He served his community with integrity, as a Fire Commissioner for King Ferry Fire District for fifty years and served as President of the Board of Fire Commissioners for many years.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife, taking many memorable trips. He also enjoyed touring farm equipment lots, visiting manufacturing plants, agricultural museums and seeing IH tractors.
Ty raised his family to value the farm, community, and education.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the King Ferry Fire Department, 1011 NY 34B, King Ferry, NY 13081 and Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, 2530 NY 34B, Poplar Ridge, NY 13139.
