Yolanda Capace Obituary
AUBURN - Yolanda Capace, 97, of Auburn, passed away peacefully late Thursday night, April 13, 2017 at the Finger Lakes Center for Living.
She was a life resident of Auburn, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Carmela Massimiano Capace. "Yo," as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was a communicant of Holy Family Church. She worked for several years as a baker for the former Van's Bakery, assisted her parents in the operation of their grocery store, and held various other jobs. Yolanda was an avid reader, and a very devoted and caring daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Her work ethic was admired by her family. She continued to shovel snow at 89 years old, because no one could quite do it to her standards.
She is survived by her loving family, niece, Elaine (John) Golden, of Auburn; two nephews, Michael (Carol) Sigona, of Minoa, and Joseph "Ace" Capace, of Auburn; as well as several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Yolanda was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Sigona, and three brothers, Cosmo, Alphonse, and James Capace.
Our family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Finger Lakes Center for Living for the tender, loving care that they consistently provided to Yo for the more than seven years that she was a resident.
A calling hour will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. this Friday morning at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Her Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1 p.m. on Friday in Holy Family Church, North Street, Auburn. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Holy Family Church, 85 North St., Auburn, NY 13021.
