Ann Fields Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, June 14, 2013, Ms. Margaret Ann Fields, 78, daughter of the late John Neal Fields and the late Willie Maude West Fields. Family members include siblings: Maude Elmo F. Morris, William Henry Fields, Elizabeth Betty F. Thomas; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters: Julie F. Agee, Louise F. Cook, Ophelia F. Hatch, and Martha Jane F. Pauley. Ms. Fields was a 1951 graduate of Harlem High School. She was also a 1955 graduate of Georgia State College for Women and was active in many organizations. She was an elementary school teacher for 40 years in Richmond and Columbia County schools and was voted teacher of the year twice. She retired in June of 1995. She was elected to Alpha Delta Kappa in 1971 and the International Sorority for Women Educators. She was a member of Alpha Zeta Chapter and then transferred to Fidelis Kappa Chapter upon retirement. Ms. Fields served in many offices as well as President of the organization. Ms. Fields was a former member of Grove Baptist Church in Grovetown. She worked in the Children's Sunday School Department and served in many other positions. She also served as the church organist. She joined First Baptist Church of Augusta following her retirement where she held many positions and was elected as Deacon in 1997 and served several terms. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Memorial Garden. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons and members of her Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends following the service in the church rotunda. Memorials contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. I just heard about Miss Fields yesterday. She taught me in 7th grade at Wheeless Rd. in the early 60s. I still remember her sweet smile and demeanor and wonderful teaching skills. She was such a great role model for us. Linda Mencken Murphy

I remember ms fields from years gone by a very sweet lady my children went to grovetown elementary looking at her today reminds me of what a great person she was thouhts and prayers for the family

Miss Fields taught me during the early 1960's at Wheeless Rd. elementary. She was a nice Lady and very good teacher.
