Edward Stevens Obituary

AUGUSTA Ga. - Mr. Edward P. Stevens passed away January 16, 2010, one week before his 89th birthday. His beloved wife Marion whom he was married to for sixty years preceded his passing in May of 2006. Mr. Stevens was known affectionately by family, relatives and friends as, Dad, grandfather, Lucky Ed, Uncle Eddy and Mr. Ed. Ed Stevens was born in Brooklyn New York on January 23, 1921. He was the last and youngest of 5 children of John and Mary Doyle Stevens. Ed has many loving nieces and nephews scattered across the country including Norway. Ed was a veteran of WWII, serving from 1943-1946. He worked for Johnson and Johnson Personal Products Division for twenty years before retiring to Southern California to become a realtor. During that time, he graduated with a business degree in Management from Syracuse University. He was active in the Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus and kept in touch with many alumni friends with Johnson and Johnson. Ed worked as a realtor in Tustin and Irvine California before retiring again at the age of 82. He Moved to Miami to be near his son Mark and family, subsequently moved with his family again to Augusta, Georgia in 2006. During the summers he would spend time with his other son Paul on Mercer Island in Seattle Washington. Ed's favorite past time was taking family and friends out to dinner always picking up the tab and making sure everyone had dessert. Mr. Stevens enjoy people and always seem to have a great story or joke to keep people laughing. During his last years he was a big supporter of his granddaughter's tennis team at the University of Virginia traveling, with Susan, Mark's wife, to root on the (Hoos) Virginia Cavaliers. He also loved animals, especially dogs. Ed Stevens is survived by his two sons Dr. Mark Stevens and his family; wife Susan, children Andrew, Jennifer, Kathleen, and Brooke and Mr. Paul Stevens, wife Barbara, children Lindsay, Kelly and Hayley. There will be a celebration Mass on Friday February 5, 2010 at 1pm at Saint Peters Church in Beaufort, South Carolina, followed by his burial at 2:30Pm at Beaufort National Cemetery.
