Harry Steine Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Harry Steine, former long-time city councilman for Augusta, died of natural causes at the age of 102 Thursday evening. Mr. Steine served on the Augusta City Council for 12 years from 1956-1968. He was born and reared in Warrenton and graduated from the University of Georgia. He was admitted to the Georgia BAR in 1934 and practiced law in Augusta for over 65 years. In the 1930's he was elected a Trustee of the Walton Way Temple and was subsequently elected President of the Congregation five times, later serving as honorary trustee until his death. Mr. Steine served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the North African and Italian campaigns. His passion for Democratic politics was well-known to many of his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Cecil, sister to the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert Greenblatt. He is survived by eight nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Congregation Children of Israel -Walton Way Temple 10 AM Tuesday February 1, 2011 with Rabbi Robert Klensin. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.
