Iris Abdel-Latif Obituary
Iris was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 12, 1930. She met her future husband in Chicago, IL and were married on September 10, 1957. The family moved to Augusta, Ga in 1967 where Dr. Abdel-Latif joined the faculty of the Medical College of Georgia.
Mrs. Latif is survived by her husband, to whom she was married for 61 years; her four children: Rhonda (Steven), David (Deborah), Joseph, Rhadi (Erin), eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nephews and nieces in Ireland and Great Britain. She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Ann Graham; brothers: Clifford, Thomas, Alexander, Herbert; as well as her sisters: Mary and Olive.
Iris's greatest achievement is the lasting legacy of her large and loving family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. With her unbelievable charm, she brought comfort and humor to all she met. . Iris was selfless, compassionate, and loved her family and friends. She enjoyed playing tennis, reading, and traveling, and was a devout Irish Catholic. She was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown, Ga. We wish to thank the staff at Brandon Wilde (Arbor) for their help and care the last two years.
A Catholic prayer service will be Saturday, December 22, 2018, 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Fr. Michael Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Georgia Heart Association, 10 Glenlake Pkwy NE, South Tower Ste. 400. Atlanta, GA 30328.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484. Please sign the guestbook at www.thomaspoteet.com

I had the wonderful joy of meeting and enjoing this beautiful lady, it was the highlight of my day when I was go to Bradon wild to sit with Mrs.Latin she was sign laughs smile all the time and we would laugh every time I see, she was such a pleasant person and she loved her husband very much, she will be missed by many she brought so much joy to Brandon Wilde

I remember well Ms. Latif from childhood days. She was a fascinating woman and her laughter was infectious. I am very sorry for the loss for the Abdel Latif family.

Iris was a beautiful light who lifted everyone around her. Our memories together span over 40 years. I will miss her smile and laughter . I cannot remember a single time she was negative or angry with anyone. She is now at peace and making Heaven even brighter . I love you sweet Iris.
