We would love to get in touch with Joe’s parents Rueben & Theresa who were our friends when we were in Kaduna.

Dear Carol,
I have met Joe only once when I came to see you both off in the airport soon after your marriage. I still recall his jovial nature that made me feel as if we knew each other forever. His affectionate smile, his cheerful conversation seems so fresh even today. All I can pray for is Carol, my dearest childhood pal……..Your tears shouldn’t make his soul cry. He is walking along with you, in each moment of your life and is still holding the hands of Kristen and Katelyn and You!
May his soul be blissful forever, by being with you and his li’l ones.

Dear Carol,
Our thoughts are with you. Joe was the warmest most jovial person one could wish to meet. He made all our lives at Pennsylvania Hospital that much brighter. Liz, Nathalie and myself have fond memories of the kindness you and Joe showed us, on our visit to your home in NJ. We pray for you, your daughters and for Joe.

Dear Carol, Kristen, Katelyn, and family,
You may not remember me well but I was an intern at Pennsylvania Hospital when Joe was a senior resident. In one's training to be a doctor, and in one's life, you meet many different people. However, extremely seldomly do you meet someone who really touches you emotionally and who you know will remain a friend for life. Joe was such a person. He was a family man, a superb and thoughtful individual, and last but not least a true lover of life. He was always positive, and his laugh was contagious and without reservation. Though his life was tragically short, I'd like to think that he lived his days to the fullest. He brightened my days and those of all he came in contact with him. Joe, I will miss you. May you rest in peace.

I knew Dr. Surrao only through the love and admiration of his brother Dominic. This is enough: I grieve for the whole family. May you all find comfort in your memories of this wonderful man. And know that concern for you extends farther than you may suspect.

There are no words that I can offer at this tragic time that make much sense. But please know that Joe was the very best of the best: the kindest, warmest, brightest, and most caring. His hearty laugh will be with me forever. May God comfort the entire family.

I barely knew Joe, but what little I knew was a real treasure. I'm sure Carol will have a lifetime of wonderful memories of Joe and that will keep him alive together with his two lovely daughters in our hearts and our prayers.

May God bless your family and keep them strong during their hour of sorrow.
May you show Carol and the girls that they are never without Joe and that everyday he is overlooking their every step in life.
