I met Phillip while stationed at Ft. Gordon, Ga. I was there for my first duty assignment on post as the Executive officer at B-3-1 on 26th street just down from where Phillip was stationed at the 258th Signal Company as a Platoon leader. I gotta know him as just another junior officer stationed on post. At one point during my assignment there someone told me that if I really wanted REAL Army experience I should put in for a transfer overseas to Europe or Korea. Infollowing up with trying to gain more experience on post I accepted the offer of 1LT Mottel to accompany him on a field problem. I didn't so during the first week of April, 1984. I even learned how to climb a telephone pole on that exercise. I became fairly well acquainted with Phil the rest of my stay at Ft. Gordon, but lost track of him once I shipped overseas to Germany in July, 1985. I just found out about his passi g after looking him up on the web today, Nov. 29th, 2024. I would like all of his relatives know what a profound inspiration he was to me as another Christian while in the service. I know where he is now, which comforts me-- May the Lord Jesus continue in y'alls lives! I am surely a better person for having known Phillip. God bless all of you.
