When I was in the DCT program in high school, I spent a day riding and learning about law enforcement with Sheriff William Swan. We ate lunch at the old Thomson Boarding House. I have been out of school for almost 40 years, but that is a day I will never forget. I developed a deep and abiding respect for William Swan. and he became a lifelong friend and mentor. Every time I saw him I would call him sheriff, and he would always insist I just call him William. He was a very good person and always willing to help out someone rather than have them suffer. He will be greatly missed.

To Charlotte and family; we are so very sorry for your loss. Although I never met your father, of course Bill knew him well. He has left behind a great legacy that I know all of you will be proud of for the rest of your lives. Much love.

I worked with William for a number of years while I was employed by the District Attorney's office. I have never met a better man. I feel I am a better person for having known him. He was a very special person who I will never forget.
