Willie Gillis Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Willie Joe Gillis, Sr. entered into rest Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, Franklynn Hall, 1833 Broad Street, Augusta, with Major Tony Perez, eulogist. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens. The remains will lie in state at the chapel from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. The funeral procession will leave the residence at Mr. Gillis was born in Augusta, Georgia. He was a graduate of Glenn Hills High School Class of 1974. He leaves to cherish his memories: children, O'Kema Ruffin, Sequoia Graham, Willie Joe Gillis, II, and Neishla Gillis; a devoted sister, Joyce Brown; devoted friend, Barbara Lack; and devoted aunt, Luella Jackson. Mr. Gillis Family:
I thought he would be looking for words to say at my funeral, but here I am trying to think of words to comfort you on this sad occasion. Gillis was a man and a devoted friend who would try to
help anyone. As a Law Enforcement Officer, he treated everyone with respect regardless of whether he got the same respect in return. He will be greatly missed by me and my family.
