Catherine MATTHYS

The sun took longer than usual to break through the dark clouds of the High Desert on the morning of December 31st, as Catherine Mary (Cathy) Barbacovi Matthys peacefully and quietly passed into the heavens from her home in Palmdale, Calif.
She had been fighting various health problems over the past few years and was forced to undergo three to four weekly
sessions of energy draining dialysis treatments, yet until only recently continued to serve the needs of many of this valley's most needy residents, through her two decade career with The County of Los Angeles.
Her warm and giving personality was a regular fixture at the LA County Raceway (LACR MX) where she helped support her family's business by working the front gate and by helping run the race track sign-ups and score keeping booths.
The sunshine of her smile and her giving, generous personality will be greatly missed by the loving family she leaves behind, including her husband John Matthys, son Tim McDaniel and his wife Amber, two step-grandchildren Alyssa and Gavin from North Las Vegas, her parents Jack and Carol Barbacovi from Palmdale, brother Greg Barbacovi from Hesperia, nephew Anthony Barbacovi from Acton, her in-laws from New York, and sister-in-law Dawn Wiltsie and brother-in-laws Steven and Randy Matthys.
Cathy can now catch up with her mother and father-in-law Gerald and Ann Matthys, her two brothers Tony and Jeff Barbacovi, who will welcome her to Heaven and show her where to find all her playmates from her birth place in Duluth, Minnesota and her school chums from Carson, California neighborhood in which she grew up, who are waiting for her and always watching over the rest of us.
