Janelle IGNATOWICZ Obituary

Born October 27, 1971, passed away on July 20, 2020. She is survived by her mother, Ann Pritz of Lancaster, California, and sister, Amy Wong (Pritz) of San Jose, California. Janelle was a bright light that influenced many throughout her 20 year teaching career at Highland High School. She held a BA in Communication as well as a California Teaching Credential and garnered the respect of students and colleagues alike. She was a creative, lifelong learner who loved to travel and was always interested in trying new things. She held a black belt in Kung Fu San Soo, enjoyed international dance classes, and was also fluent in Spanish. She will be remembered as a kind and generous supporter of those less fortunate and one who made a difference in the lives of others. The family will hold a small, private gathering to celebrate her life so in lieu of flowers or donations, if you have a favorite memory or story of Janelle you would like to share, please forward that to Ann Pritz at [email protected].

Janelle was a good friend of mine when I taught at HHS.... so sad to hear of her passing, so distressing.

I went to high school with Janelle at Quartz Hill High School. Janel (how we spelled it back then) was an amazing friend--funny, sweet, generous, and always laughing. At 17, she drove the family vintage roadster down to the valley like a pro, making a ditch day covertly educational, going to museums and historic sites like La Brea tar pits. I even curled her hair with a gas butane hair curler as she drove us. Oh, the eighties. She was a believer in Christ Jesus. I know you are with the angels, friend. Love you.

Janelle was my classmate in college. She had a kind and gentle soul. I am happy for her success as a schoolteacher and that she was loved and respected by so many.

Janelle was a beautiful soul. She had the most calming presence, a knack for listening and a way of making you fell heard and important. She had so many talents, with a passion for bettering the world and helping people around her. Sending love and my condolences to Anne, Amy and the rest of her family. The world surely is less bright, without Janelle here. May memories of her continue to warm your heart and bring you peace.

Mrs. I, you will be deeply missed. My senior year of high school was truly fantastic having you as a teacher. You left such an impact on my life that every so often your blissful laughter enters my mind whether we were in class or even after I graduated where I would see you come through my line at work (Trader Joe's). Just months ago, as I was preparing to move, I came across a paper I had written in your class just three years ago and the purpose of me keeping it all these years was because you allowed me to see the voice I had within me. You inspired me to write graciously and I dedicate all my papers to you because you believed in me and that's the reason I kept that last essay from your class. Sweetest soul.

Janelle subbed for me in 1997 when I had to have cancer surgery. I was new to the AVUHSD so instead of her grading all the students' work for six weeks, I wanted to do that myself while I recovered. Janelle was kind enough to drop off the work and pick up what I had graded every week. I appreciated this so much and I am sure this was an inconvenience for her. She aided in my recovery immensely. I am very saddened at the thought of her untimely death. My heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and former students.

Janelle was a beautiful reflection of her mother, Ann Pritz, and a delight to know. Although our interaction was brief, it was lasting and I will always remember her smile and warm character. Her light shined bright and she will be remember for the imprint she left on her students and everyone who knew and loved her. Prayers and comfort to the family!
