Abraham Bernstein Obituary

Bernstein, Abraham Michael "Mickey"
passed away on April 19, 2011. Never was a man more loved and admired by all! Mickey was born on July 4th, 1930 to Katherine and Abe Bernstein in Miami, AZ, the youngest of four boys. Little did Kate and Abe know that they had just given birth to someone who would change for the better every life he touched. Mickey graduated from Miami High School in 1948 and then went on to the University of Arizona where he graduated with his Law Degree in 1954. Mickey was a prominent attorney in the Valley for 50 years specializing in transportation. He was a partner in two law practices: Yankee and Bernstein, and Paytas, Lutich, Bernstein, Shannon and Fleming. In 1955, he became the Deputy Attorney General representing the Arizona Corporation Commission. He was also a long standing member of the Motor Carriers Lawyers Association. As well-known and admired as he was in the field of law, nothing compared to the love and admiration that he received and gave to family and friends. To Mickey, all of his friends were simply an extension of his family and all strangers were simply friends he had yet to meet. He was known for greeting all new acquaintances with, "where are you from, partner?" No matter who you were or what your background, you could always count on him for anything. Mickey was a very humble man who lived a very large life, whether relaxing on his porch in Echo Canyon, with his beloved Opera blaring to all who could hear, to the many countries he visited all over the world with the love of his life, Artie. He was known for his intelligence, wit, fabulous sense of humor and most of all: his down-to-earth outlook on life. "Don't sweat the small stuff" was his life motto. He will be deeply missed by everyone he leaves behind, especially the loves of his life, wife Artie, daughter Lisa Simond DuVall, son Robert Bernstein, stepson Michael Norton, son-in-law Dan DuVall, daughter-in-law, Larisa Bernstein and his lifelong best friend and law partner, Baldo Lutich. His Granddaughters Alexandra and Leah Simond will forever be blessed by the times and life lessons they shared with their "papa." He also leaves behind many, many nieces and nephews whose lives were immeasurably enriched by his presence. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Katherine Bernstein and 3 brothers, James, Kenneth and Robert along with his sister-in-law Mary Lou Bernstein. Please join us in services to be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00pm at Messenger Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85255.

To Lisa and family,
My prayers and thoughts go out to your whole family as you all deal with this great loss. Loosing a parent is one of the most tough times that anyone can endure. But it's a way of life that we come into this world and we must leave at some point in our walk on this earth. I didn't know your dad personally but it sounds like he left something good to all he met or came in contact with. Don't be sad that he is gone be proud and learn from him and go out and do good. I know that he would like that of all of us.
Because of Jesus,
Neal G. Cissel
