Alan Bernstein Obituary

Bernstein, Alan Stuart
Alan Stuart Bernstein, believed to be the longest living heart transplant recipient 0f 27 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Gardner Hospice Home, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on April 5, 1938, in Aliquippa, PA, to the late Nate and Ruth Bernstein. Alan graduated from West Virginia University and began his professional career as a physical therapist, but it wasn't until several years later when he found his true calling as, "The Ice Baron". Alan owned and ran ice companies in Pittsburgh and in Phoenix for many years. For Alan, the thrill of business was his favorite hobby. Alan loved old cars and flying airplanes. He was a pilot and loved flying friends and family to nearby cities just for fun. He enjoyed the great outdoors and fishing with his dad. Alan was quite the adventurer and traveler as well. But with all that exotic travel, nothing was tastier than a good plate of ribs, and pretty much everything was always improved with Heinz ketchup! Alan was a loving brother, father, Zadie and uncle who really could tell a story better than anyone! He is survived by his loving younger sister, Joan Rothfeder; his ex-wife, Bunnie Allen; his children Beth, Paula, Holly, and John; his grandchildren, Jake, Bascia, Katie, Corey, Cameron, Kelton, Cohl, Ashley and Bailye; his niece, Andria, grandniece, Ariana, his special friend and pal, Martin Ortiz and above all his precious cat, Victoria. Graveside services were held Friday 11/11/16 at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, family is requesting a donation to Cardiac Transplant Research at Mayo Clinic, Dept. of Development, 13400 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85259.

Here it is just after the anniversary of your passing that I only recently found out by researching for you. I've often wondered if I should've gone to Az with you from Pittsburgh Ice. Sad to know of your passing and God bless you.
