My dearest friend, Alandra, would have celebrated her birthday today.
In memory of her New Year birth, it's most noteworthy to know that she now is ageless, as she has seen the face of her Savior, the Eternal Living God, and resides in His glorious Kingdom.
No doubt the angels are singing just a little better under Alandra's vocal suggestions!
Happy Birthday, Alandra!
I forever love and miss you.

Alandra and I went through the D.M.A. program together at the University of Arizona. We were best friends, and we adopted each other as sisters. We shared so much -- the studying, the performing (both singers), and fun stuff like country western dancing and camping out on Mount Graham. Alandra loved nature. The birds sang right on cue during "Over the Rainbow" during her memorial service -- she had sat often in that same garden enjoying their activities at the bird bath. In fact, her father, a biologist, found her name in his research -- it means "nightingale. She was a special friend -- elegant of spirit, giving of heart. And funny!
I love you Alandra. Goodbye, my friend. Until we meet again.
Love,
Marie-Christine

Alandra and I were members of the Class of 1980 at Thomson HS in Thomson, Georgia. We shared many classes together and appeared on stage in "Spoon River Anthology" during our senior year.
Alandra was a lovely and talented young woman whose talents were greatly evident upon her arrival in Thomson. Our last meeting was after her concert presentation at Thomson's First Baptist Church several years ago. I reflected on the teenager I had known and how her gifts had been fully realized as an adult. It pleases me to read that her music and teaching meant so much to the Phoenix community.
My condolences to her husband and family.

Alandra will ever remain the most tremendous, vibrant, courageous, caring, and beautiful person I have ever met. She was so brilliant, and radiated talent, beauty, grace, and love. I first met her as my voice teacher and took lessons from her in Tucson from 1998-2001. We quickly became close friends and have been so for the past five years. We became like sisters. I also had the honor of being one of her bridesmaids in her wedding in 1999 in which she and I sang a duet. To me, her gorgeous coloratura voice is unmatched. Because of her, I will continue to develop my own coloratura voice, as well as other abilities she has encouraged me to pursue. I had the honor of caring for her over the last two months. To know Alandra was to know kindness, beauty, music, and how to live life in the positive and through faith in Christ.

Dr. Fowler was my private vocal instructor from 2001-2003. She was the first person to recognize my potential. I owe her my abilities now because of her great teaching abilites and her love she gave so openly.

I had the priviledge of knowing Alandra through my brother, Allen Baston. She visited with me and my family on many occasions. I kept up with her illness through Allen and prayed for her. Even though she will be missed terribly, we have the memories of what she left behind. A legacy of a talent, spirit, and beauty.

It seems only yesterday we were in class together at Augusta College. My heart goes out to the family Alandra leaves behind. She was such a special person.
